A Short History

Founded in 1722, The Blue Coat School owes its origin to Reverend William Higgs, Rector of St Philip's Church, Birmingham, now Birmingham Cathedral. Co-educational from the start, the school offered poor but deserving children a sound education based on the Christian values of the Church of England. Its aims have never changed: to prepare and equip children comprehensively for the challenges of adult life.

Today the school remains a Church of England Foundation, but welcomes those of all faiths or none.
