This week Year 3 classes have been visiting the Blue Coat kitchen as part of their Healthy Eating programme in Science. Catering Manager, Mark Gladwin, conducted the guided tour whilst spoon feeding some impressive facts along the way. He explained how over 700 meals were prepared, served and then washed up each day by his team of fourteen staff. The emphasis is very much to provide nutritious balanced food, as well as to encourage positive choices like maintaining a diet with five fruit or vegetables a day.
The children were shown the hot & cold service areas before being taken to the dry store. For many the highlight was the walk in fridge, although the giant dish washer also proved extremely popular.
In the near future Year 3 pupils will be completing their Food Diary Challenge at home. There will be prizes awarded by Palmer Howells for outstanding efforts.
