Pirates invaded the School Hall last Friday, led by Captain Derby, Horrid Harrison and Captain Wurr! They were accompanied by their trusty parrot Squawking Smith. Their task, to make a Christmas treasure chest, which they did with varying degrees of success! Helped by their able crew, the chests were filled with booty fit for a little boy or girl.
In true pirate style, there was much hearty laughter and a good dose of traditional pirate ways, as each team walked the plank and raised their flag claiming certain victory!
When Jesus walked and talked with lepers, healing them and giving them new hope, He showed us how we are to treasure others no matter what they look like on the outside. To Him they were treasure, not trash.
Our Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes give us the opportunity to show children around the world, who are less fortunate than ourselves, that they are valuable to God and to others. We hope that as we fill our treasure-filled Christmas shoeboxes, they will bring them much joy and remind them that they are special.
My thanks to our school pirates (who shall remain nameless!) the naughty Blue Coat parrot (Mrs Smith) for their enthusiastic and life-like portrayal of piracy at Blue Coat! Thank you Mrs Neeson for helping Chaplain to wrap so many shoeboxes and to our tech team of Mr Isherwood, Mr Nicklin and Mr Paterson.
All that is left to do is to find a shoe box, cover it and fill it with treasure!
Prep children will hear more details about this during House assemblies; Pre Prep children will have fun making a class box but are most welcome to make one at home too!
