On a bright and sunny morning, Year 1 excitedly set off for their outing to Tamworth Castle. On arrival, we had to climb a steep hill to reach the castle at the top.

We had a fun-packed day, filled with workshops and tours. We met the servant Lucy, who needed help to set the table for Lord and Lady Ferriers. We were introduced to Lady Ferriers and we had to show her respect by bowing or curtsying. We also learnt how to be squires, from Master Lincoln, by putting together a suit of armour and learning to fight with a bardiche. The children loved using the pretend bardiches to ‘strike high’ and ‘strike low’ in the courtyard. Lastly, we enjoyed a self-led tour around the castle.

We saw the dark and spooky dungeon, stood at the top of the tower to spot the Snow Dome, tried on armour in the armoury, got trapped in the stocks, dressed up in period costumes (with hilarious wigs) and visited the different living quarters of the castle.

There was a lot to see and learn and the children behaved beautifully. Well done, Year 1: you are a credit to the school.
