SWIMMING

It was unfortunate that our Year 3 and 4 swimming gala was cancelled for this evening. but we are looking to re-arrange with Holy Trinity at a later date. To give our children some competition experience, we decided to run an ‘in-house’ gala for our Year 4 swimmers and time trials for our Year 3 during their curriculum swimming lessons. There were a lot of cheers and we saw some super swims from all who swam!

It was the third week of our early morning squad practices and myself, Mrs Denham and Chris Littler (City of Birmingham) are impressed with the progress and work ethic of everyone. We have gone over streamlining a lot this week and have really seen the benefits during their weekly lesson.

Our TED swimmers enjoyed their water polo lesson last Friday. We went through ball handling, shooting and even managed to squeeze in a couple of games. Mrs Barrowclift will now be introducing the children to synchronised swimming, complete with music and routines!

U10A Hockey v Hallfield
Monday 2 October
Result: BCS 1 – 1 Hallfield
Most Valued Player: Storm Henshaw

The U10’s looked solid from the very start, with excellent forward runs from Storm and Lexie. Bea stayed solid in midfield and kept the engine of midfield ticking over and supplying the link needed between the defence and attack. Kate made some excellent saves and kicked the ball clear with Joanne staying calm in defence. Elspeth continued to track the ball and tried hard to get in front of the Hallfield defence. The score did not reflect how we dominated the match and how many shots we had. We certainly need to practice smashing our shots in the goal and finishing our chances.

Scorer: Own Goal

Tuesday 3 October
Blue Coat 2 – 1 Hallfield
Most Valued Player: Glory Benjamin-Raj

A group of very excited Year 4 girls headed down to Hallfield on Tuesday for their first game of the season. The girls were a little tentative in the first half and were a goal down by the interval. Immediately in the second half the BCS side showed a lot more intent and once Indira S scored an equaliser, their confidence grew. Another quick goal from Indira was well deserved but credit to the Hallfield girls who continued to fight back. The back two of Glory B-J and Ishani S were particularly impressive in the final stages of the game. Congratulations to the whole side on a great win to start the season.

Scorer: Indira Singh (2)

U9B Hockey v Hallfield (A)
Tuesday 3 October
Blue Coat 0 – 2 Hallfield
Most Valued Player: Simran Bansal

The U9B side couldn’t wait to get out onto the pitch this Tuesday afternoon and test their skills against Hallfield. Mr Newman and Miss Scullion were very proud of the team in the way they responded in the second half after Hallfield had dominated the first half, going 2-0 up with a more aggressive approach. The BCS girls came out really ‘fired up’ in the second half and Simran B and Zunaira I both set a great example to the rest of the side.

U11B Hockey v RGS The Grange (H)
Wednesday 4 October
BCS 0 – 0 RGS
Most Valued Player: Isabelle Clarkson

The U11B side showed aggressive intent this week from the very first whistle, which was very pleasing indeed. The opposition were not allowed time to settle on the ball and Sarab S, in particular, set the tone for the rest of the side. BCS had large periods of possession but unfortunately couldn’t put the ball past a very strong RGS goalkeeper. Sareena S always looked threatening in attack while Isabelle C provided great strength in the middle of pitch. Well played, girls!

U11D Hockey v RGS The Grange (H)
Wednesday 4 October
BCS 1 – 0 RGS
Most Valued Player: Karolina Rarko

After a wobbly opening five minutes, the girls picked up their game and began to dominate their opponents. They always applied pressure when the RGS girls had the ball and turned over possession regularly. Zara B ran her heart out, always looking to counter attack with pace, while Karolina R provided the side with stability in the middle of the pitch. There was great excitement when the goal came and the girls were delighted with the victory – Well done everybody!

Scorer: Zara Bhatti

BCS 25 – 40 Eversfield
Most Valued Player: Peter Tomlinson

Blue Coat began brightly in a very open, entertaining first half. Without being behind, Blue Coat got to half time with the scores level at 3 all. Eversfield began the second half well and put Blue Coat under large amounts of pressure and were duly rewarded with several unanswered tries, thus securing victory despite two late consolation tries for Blue Coat.
