RM’S TOY WEEK

This week in RM the children have been looking at toys. They started the week by bringing in their favourite toy from home. (I don’t think I have ever seen the ‘Show and Tell’ box so full!) There were some lovely toys ranging from a transformer to a princess till. However the most popular choice seemed to be a teddy bear.

On Tuesday the children looked at toys from the past. They quickly spotted that the toys were not technology based like they are today. The children enjoyed sorting the toys into old and new sets on the carpet. They then completed a cut and stick activity. We noticed that some toys from the past such as the marbles and the skipping rope are still popular today.

The following day the children used the chromebooks to design a teddy paint project. They made some fantastic teddy bear pictures which will be used for our classroom display. RM also listened to the story ‘Clown, Bear and Rabbit’ by Tony Maddox. For any of you who are not familiar with this text, the old toys wake up in Grandma’s house to find they are being thrown out as rubbish. However they luckily find their way back to the house and the children living there want to keep the old toys alongside their own. RM have really enjoyed the topic this week!

JOLENE THE GIRAFFE

On Monday, Class RS had an unusual delivery – a mysterious box arrived addressed to the class. After guessing what might be in it, we carefully opened the box to find a rather large giraffe, complete with a label telling us she was called Jolene and asking if she could come and stay for a while. This led to lots of discussions about how to look after her, what she would need and what she might like to do. Jolene has stayed all week and has enjoyed joining in lots of different activities. Her favourite story was “Jolly Tall” by Jane Hissey, about a giraffe in very similar circumstances, who arrived unexpectedly in a box and ended up making lots of new friends. The children have enthusiastically taken good care of our visitor and will be sorry to see her go.
