U11A Rugby v RGS the Grange
Date: Wednesday 29th November
Result: BCS 50-15 RGS
Most Valued Player: An excellent team performance
Report: A fantastic display of running rugby to finish the season. The boys have really improved and are starting to get the ball wide, pass before contact and attack the space at pace. Some strong defence kept the opposition out. Well done boys!

U8B Football v West House
Date: Thursday 30th November
Result: West House 1 Blue Coat 0
Most Valued Player: Joshvir Sandhu really understood the game through defence and midfield
Report: Fantastic to get a fixture underway in the cold weather, as the U8Bs were heavily influenced by the slope on the pitch! In the second half it was total possession by Blue Coat, creating numerous chances and possession inside the box. Harris Rahman was unfortunate that most chances fell to his left foot, which he didn’t capitalise! Samuel Tan was our engine in midfield and Toby Smoulden managed to intercept lots of West House passes out of defence.

U8C Football v West House (A)
Date: Thursday 30th November
Result: BCS 0 West House 0
Most Valued Player: Daniel Du for completing his defensive duties well and seeking to get himself and the ball forward.
Report: Blue Coat played out a second goalless draw against West House this season. Blue Coat arguably had the better of the possession and posed a greater goalscoring threat, however, they struggled to break down a packed West House defence. Well done to the C team who have enjoyed 3 draws and a win this season.

U8A Football v West House
Date: Thursday 30th November
Result: BCS 0 West House 2
Most Valued Player: Jay Lewis for allround contribution
Report: On a very cold afternoon, in a “”game of 2 halves”” Blue Coat were left ruing opportunities missed in the first half against a good West House side. However whilst the result went against the side some of the players performed admirably in the conditions. Neil Nair was a rock in defence with some excellent tackling and distribution. Jay lewis once again put in an excellent performance with his game awareness and great touch.

U10C Rugby v King Henry VIII School (H)
Date: Monday 4th December
Result: BCS 30 KHVIII 50
Most Valued Player: Nahom Mehari for strong running with the ball and scoring a couple of tries.
Report: Blue Coat began brightly scoring several tries but King Henry’s came increasingly into the game and their better passing away from contact and offloading proved decisive. Blue Coat had some strong individual runs but failed to support or offload quick enough to maintain continuity and mount any real inroads into the scoreline to gain parity with King Henry’s.

U10A Hockey v King’s Hawford
Date: Monday 4th December
Result: BCS 1-6 King’s Hawford
Most Valued Player: Bea Neeson
Report: With the end of term fast approaching we were going into our last match unbeaten since September. We knew the opposition’s target player and set tactics to keep her out of the game. Within the first minute King’s Hawford set out their stall with a lifted ball blasted straight at Bea’s knee. As much as she insisted she was fine to play, the immediate egg-sized bruise on her knee suggested otherwise. With a quick substitution we set off confidently playing the ball forwards as a team with Tara and Lexie coming close. Chloe stepped up to the challenge and was composed on the ball as King’s Hawford drove into our circle. With a penalty corner awarded for feet, King’s Hawford went ahead from a driven shot from their star player. With gritted teeth and determination Bea came back on to lead her team. Ojal was strong in keeping their target player at bay. Storm was working hard down the wing but we just couldn’t finish off her crosses. Lexie dribbled forwards and her pass was intercepted but she tracked her opponent back and made an excellent jab tackle only to be injured in the process. A couple of changes later and Maya and Tara proving fabulous as utility players we were straight back into them. Natasha stole the ball and drove forwards and scored a fabulous goal which she fully deserved. With the relentless attack of their main player, Daphne did well to keep her nerve being 1 on 1. Although the scoreline suggests otherwise no one with the BCS crest on their chest during this match should be saddened or upset. We have come such a long way since our first house matches on grass and we surely have a group of girls that would run through walls for their team mates if asked. A fantastic term ladies – it has been a pleasure working with you all.

U10A Rugby vs King Henry VIII Coventry
Date: Monday 4th December
Result: BCS 8-7 King Henry VIII
Most Valued Player: AY
Report: In their final game of the term the U10A rugby team put in a marvellous performance to win an extremely competitive game against a very good King Henry VIII side 8-7. The endeavour shown by the whole team was fantastic with the number of offloads or passes achieved by the team at least double that of the opposition. All players contributed to this fine performance with the support play and running a joy to watch. Two players though stood out, Oliver Smith for some excellent running with the ball, and AY who put in a real captain’s performance especially at the breakdown where his strength and physicality was immense. Numerous times he single handedly stopped Henry’s attacks stealing the ball at the breakdown and turning defence into attack. However the thing that pleased me most was the resilience shown by the whole side. The game ebbed and flowed from one team to the other and at no point did the players lose their cool. They kept working for each other which was a great testament to their character and determination. Well done on a fantastic term of rugby where they have beaten some really good rugby schools.

U10B Rugby v King Henry’s
Date: Monday 4th December
Result: BCS 6-7 King Henry VIII
Most Valued Player: Ishan Bradstock
Report: An exciting end to end match. Blue Coat took an early lead running hard at the opposition and looking to offload the ball out of contact. King Henry’s came straight back at us and poor defence allowed them an easy score. The game then slid in King Henry’s favour as our boys forgot to push up in defence and gaps began to open. Blue Coat finished the game well putting pressure on the opposition, making their tackles and were unlucky not to get a draw. A good hard-fought game to finish the season.

U9A Rugby v King Henry’s
Date: Tuesday 5th December
Result: BCS 9 – 7 King Henry VIII
Most Valued Player: Vinay Ratti for strong ball carrying and tackling. Will Smallwood for scoring several good tries.
Report: The final game of the season proved a very physical encounter with both teams tackling very well and defenses coming out on top. Both teams were guilty of running too laterally but arguably Blue Coat carried the ball forward slightly better and as a result edged a very tight encounter to remain undefeated for the season.

U10D Rugby v King Henry VIII
Date: Monday 4th December
Result: BCS 12-10 King Henry VIII
Most Valued Player: Pardeep Sohal
Report: A cracking game of rugby from a group of boys who have made so much progress this season. The team made a real effort to support the ball carrier and as a result some super tries were scored from very skillful offloads. Pardeep Sohal, in particular, showed real commitment with his running lines and it was brilliant to see Hassan Afzal run hard at the opposition defence. Will Cowley, captain for the day, once again set the example with an impressive set of scores and some strong defence. It was a real privilege to watch the side play this week – well done boys!

U9 Girls’ Hockey Festival of Fun v Solihull
Date: Tuesday 5th December
Result: P16 W9 L2 D5 F25 A8
Report: Tuesday afternoon was a great deal of fun for the 24 girls who set off to play Solihull. Many were playing their first competitive fixture for the school and everyone impressed. The girls were split into 4 mixed teams, and each team had 4 matches against the Solihull girls. There was a real festival feel to the afternoon and matches were played in great spirit. The cookies after the game were delicious and we had fun on the way back as some of the girls tested each other with some riddles. ‘A windowless room contains three identical light fixtures, each containing an identical light bulb or light globe. Each light is connected to one of three switches outside of the room. Each bulb is switched off at present. You are outside the room, and the door is closed. Before opening the door you may play around with the light switches as many times as you like. But once you’ve opened the door, you may no longer touch a switch. After this, you go into the room and examine the lights. How can you tell which switch goes to which light?

U8, U10 & U11 Girls Swimming vs Saint Martin’s & Balsall Common
Date: Tuesday 5th December
Result: BCS Win
Most Valued Player: Anoushka Hart – For winning the U9’s 25m Freestyle
Report: At our final swimming gala of the Michaelmas term a team of 14 girls travelled to Saint Martin’s School to swim against the hosts and Balsall Common. Full of confidence we swam well, winning 17 out of 25 events and displaying some outstanding performances during the process.
Special mentions must go to Anoushka Hart and Lucie Evans for swimming in the U9 individual events, with Anoushka winning her 25m Freestyle! Other individual wins came from Storm Henshaw, Skye Henshaw, Poppy Couzens, Lara Wilcox and Maya Hart. We won all of our relays which is a credit to the strength we have as a school. Following that, our takeovers and dives were excellent.
Overall it finished Blue Coat 1st, Saint Martin’s A 2nd, Balsall Common 3rd and Saint Martin’s B 4TH. A job very well done!

Most Valued Player: Simeon Hughes with continued tackling success and lead from the front.
Report: Really tough fixture for the U9Cs who came up against a strong 7. We just didn’t get close enough to the runners, who opened up their legs and beat us for pace. What was pleasing was the continued determination to get tries back, and support the ball carrier.
