The children in Years 1 and 2 were very privileged to meet and listen to Paul Geraghty on Tuesday of this week. He talked about his earliest inspirations being the beautiful countryside around his home in Pietermaritzberg, South Africa and brought that to life. This was done through introducing us to the sounds of the different creatures that he encountered and how the sounds were amplified in the night. His imagination led him to invent a new creature which he told stories about. Paul’s talk made the story that he read to us ‘leap off the page’ as he related the theme of an outsider trying to be accepted. As Paul was talking about his stories he also drew an illustration for us and demonstrated how he uses simple lines on old or scrap pieces of paper before taping them together and adding the details. The children were mesmerised by his enthusiasm and their eagerness to want to ask questions and to also read more of his books was evident. Thank you to Mrs West for organising such a fantastic event.
