It has been an extremely exciting ‘Giant’ week in Transition and Reception. The children returned to the classroom one morning to find the magic beans they had planted had grown into beanstalks reaching to the ceiling! They enjoyed lots of themed activities including using their ICT and Maths skills to weigh and order different sparkly eggs left by the Giant.

Test Tube Tash from Mad Science West Midlands joined Reception children to demonstrate some lovely giant themed experiments. The children learnt how to make toothpaste for a giant and how to conduct a mini explosion mixing vinegar and baking powder. The children even became excavators looking for a dinosaur tooth. It was a great workshop and every person present was fascinated.

Reception classes were very surprised to find clues in their classrooms this week all pointing towards a visit from a giant! Footprints were found (some even in the snow) leading out of the classrooms and one or two people saw him running across the field. In his rush to leave he left behind a giant bag containing a comb, sunglasses, a pen and pencil, some clothes, shoes and even a golden egg.

Of course we alerted Mr Neeson to this intruder and he is going to keep a close look out for him. Naturally the children had lots of questions about our visitor and why he had visited. These included him wanting to make new friends and to play with the school toys, although if you ask Mr Darby, he was convinced the giant had come to eat him!  Once the children had a clear description of what the giant looked like they made wanted posters which have been displayed around the school. If anyone has seen or knows the current whereabouts of the giant, please let Main Reception know.
