This week the Reception children have transported their learning outdoors across the curriculum. During phonics, some of the children went on a scavenger hunt in the Transition playground to find pictures featuring the split digraph u-e. The task involved the children reading the u-e words and finding the corresponding picture. They then completed a tick list sheet to show what they had found. In Mathematics, Reception have been learning about positional language. In their outdoor learning sessions the children have taken it in turns with a partner to hide a toy and give instructions to their partner to find it. The children enjoyed hiding the toys in some unusual places. In addition as part of this week’s topic ‘Growth’, the children have been finding out about different flowers. Using the iPads, Reception went on a walk around the school grounds in search of flowers to photograph. They were then encouraged to talk about what they had observed and share their favourite photograph. Next week, Reception will be continuing to incorporate the outdoors into their learning as they will be inviting their favourite teddy into school to join them on a picnic.
