Republic of Ireland 2 v Bosnia & Herzegovina 0

The opportunity to watch a Junior International at St George’s Park, Burton, the new state of the art training hub for English Football, was so motivating for the pupils. St George’s Park itself was busy with visitors but the grounds were breathtaking. We sat and had lunch in the mini stands before kick off at 1:00pm. Other schools were dotted around us, fully submerged in the atmosphere with a sense of ‘this could be me in 10 years time’.

Ireland started the better side, being creative through midfield & having a classic number 9 who was too physical to handle in every 1-1. But chances were missed & we thought we wouldn’t see a goal, with players lacking that final composure. However in the 70th minute, a 30 yard free kick from Ireland’s number 10 Parrot swirled in the air and beat the Goalkeeper to take the lead. Minutes later, Ireland’s right back cut in field and threaded a superb through ball to their talisman Idah who deserved his goal.

We managed to see all the players leave the pitch sharing high fives and cuddles with family. The trip was also not without Blue Coat children getting a great photo with Idah the goal scorer! What a fantastic day out – we will make every effort to give our pupils the opportunity to visit this inspiring sporting venue.
