On a sunny Saturday 9th June we travelled down to the London Aquatic Centre to compete in the IAPS National Swimming Finals. Our team consisting of Kieran OR, Maya H, Storm H, Neave R, Poppy C and Skye H were prepped and ready for the event!

Up first we had Kieran competing in the U10 25m Butterfly. Swimming for the first time at the 2012 Olympic Venue, Kieran swam well, narrowly missing his personal best by 0.4 of a second! Overall Kieran finished 18th in the country.

The girls arrived in the afternoon and we had the Medley and Freestyle relays first. Both teams consisting of Skye, Poppy, Neave and Maya swam fast, beating their current time and finishing a respectable 6th in the Freestyle and 12th in the Medley relay.

Individuals were the finale – Storm recorded a personal best in her 25m Butterfly and finished 15th. Poppy narrowly missed out on her personal best and finished 11th in the 50m Backstroke. Skye was the final event of the day and qualified for the final of the 50m Freestyle. In the final Skye gave it her all and recorded an impressive new personal best of 29.23, dipping under the 30 second mark for the first time. Her efforts were rewarded as she finished 2nd in the country! A video of her swim is below – she is in lane 5.

Congratulations to the team. What a great first experience at the National IAPS Finals!

On Tuesday 12th June it was the Year 5 Inter House Swimming Gala, an event the children had been looking forward to!

Supported by parents and house staff, it promised to be an exciting event. Prior to the gala the league table stood at 1) St Margaret’s, 2) St George’s, 3) St Philip’s and 4) St Monica’s. The children warmed up and then we were off, twelve relays (six on front crawl and six on backstroke) were swum and there were some very close and exciting races.

Overall the event finished 1) St Margaret’s 42, 2) St Monica’s 35, 3) St Philip’s 26 and St George’s 17. The points from this gala, coupled with the points from the previous house gala’s now means the league table stands 1) St Margaret’s 190, 2) St Philip’s 167, 3) St Monica’s 164 and 4) St George’s 160.

The final house gala will take place on Tuesday 19th June, good luck to the Year 3 swimmers!
