Personal Social Health and Economic education is a school subject through which pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy and safe, and prepare for life and work in modern Britain. In Pre Prep it forms a major part of our hidden curriculum but is also taught weekly as a separate subject.
This year the children have been involved in an emotional logic programme based on a book called ‘The Talking Tree.’ This was a series of lessons which gave the children a greater understanding of their own feelings and emotions, but also strategies to cope with emotions they may be experiencing. This programme has been very successful and the children have enjoyed it. We also teach the children to understand how their behaviour affects the environment as we believe it is very important to instil the right attitudes at a very early age. It is very encouraging to see how the children in Pre-Prep really care about their local environment.
We also spend a great deal of time teaching our children how to co-operate and to understand how their behaviour affects other children and adults. We constantly reinforce the school values and reward these accordingly. PHSE is really important in the development of the whole child and an integral and vital part of our education at The Blue Coat School.
