Over the last three weeks, we have been delighted to invite back to Blue Coat Scarlett Brunning, a former pupil and a keen poet. She has run a series of poetry workshops with some of our Year 4 children.

During the three sessions, the children learned about different types of poetic language and techniques, such as stanzas, enjambement, caesura and feet. They revised similes, metaphors and alliteration, and then challenged themselves to identify and use pathetic fallacy and personification. They looked at a range of poems, from Julia Donaldson to Maya Angelou, and also found their own favourite poem, as well as wrote poems of their own. They also participated in a treasure hunt around the library and are looking forward to the publication of their first poetry anthology!

We would like to thank Scarlett for coming and for teaching us so much.
