Year 2 enjoyed a very interesting visit from the firefighters from White Watch at Bournebrook Fire Station this week as part of their topic about The Great Fire of London.
The children learned about what to do if they found a fire and the importance of not making hoax calls. They also saw how quickly a fire could spread and the importance of getting away quickly and calling 999. They also tried their hands at some simple CPR and practised the ‘Stop, Drop and Roll’ technique to use, should their clothes ever catch fire – especially important with Bonfire night coming up.
The highlight of the visit was the tour around the fire engine; an opportunity to see the tools that are used, how the hoses work and even a chance to have a sit in the driver’s seat!
