LACROSSE
U11 Girls’ Lacrosse Festival
Report: With the non stop rain over the weekend the Lacrosse Festival was moved inside to a Sports hall. 10 of our Year 6 girls were put through their paces in the morning working on the skills of lacrosse. They participated in activities on a circuit and went through pass and catch, groundball, carrying and shooting stations. In the afternoon they took part in a tournament where they could put all the new skills they had learnt into practice. It was great to see the girls applying themselves to another sport which is completely new to them. They all had great attitudes to the lacrosse coaches and teaching staff and they certainly progressed quickly, not losing any matches. Ultimately, this was another sporting opportunity and allowed some of our girls be exposed to another sport.

Date: Tuesday 6th November
Result: BCS 65 – W 35
Most Valued Player: Jenson Fickert
Report: A terrific return back from half term with the C team coming out of the gates with a terrific performance. All players maintained a high work rate throughout the whole game with great displays of ball carrying and defensive work. The boys focussed on the defensive shape which developed into an unbreakable wall with terrific tackling from Neil, Alex and Ateeb. Going forward the boys focussed on passing the ball around the defenders which saw great support play by Jenson, Govind and Khaleel. A dominating performance all round.
Scorer: Alexandros (4) Govind (1) Jenson (5) Ateeb (2) Neil (1)

U9B Rugby v Winterfold (A)
Date: Tuesday 6th November
Result: BCS 30 – Winterfold 25
Most Valued Player: David Foster made a try-saving tackle, crunching the attacker who knocked the ball on.
Report: Perfect ability match with Winterfold played in the spirit of the game. Both teams exchanged two tries by half time, Blue Coat offering too much space in wide positions when defending as a team. In attack we have real pace through the try scorers, plus Joel Drake & Henry Coughlan. Gurtej Hunjan and Harris Rahman were our power runners, gaining yards by hitting tacklers and running through. Blue Coat may have edged the game in the end, and it was fantastic to see the continued progression of this group!
Scorer: Toby Smoldon (2), David Foster (2), Marcus Wigg (2)

Date: Tuesday 6th November
Result: No score was recorded
Most Valued Player: Jai Lewis for a fantastic display in both attack and defence
Report: In an entertaining game against Winterfold it was great to see both sides play some great rugby with some fantastic passing and offloading. It was agreed not to keep score so that the focus would be on the enjoyment of playing rather than the result and this had a really positive effect, with both teams just enjoying playing. Both teams need to work on improving their tackling as far too many tackles were missed, but some of the support player and offloading was excellent. Jai Lewis had a magnificent game with his elusive footwork and silky skills, however it has been his commitment to tackling properly that has impressed me the most in the last few weeks. Sam Hodges was once again a tackling machine and some of the other boys need to follow their lead and realise that being committed to tackling is vital. Harry Forty made some very strong runs but must become more aware of where the touchline is. Overall a very enjoyable afternoon for which I am hoping the boys learnt a lot.

Report: A great start to the second part of the season saw the U11As produce a well-structured and disciplined performance across all 4 games. With the focus of the tournament to develop players ability, this saw many of the BCS players taken off and rotated in order to even out the matches. All 4 performances displayed positive running with the ball, along with good support at all times. In addition, BCS defending extremely well especially at the breakdown. Well done boys!

U10B Rugby v Bromsgrove
Date: Wednesday 7th November
Result: BCS 25 -25 Bromsgrove
Most Valued Player: The whole team for fantastic effort, resilience and teamwork.
Report: In a fantastic game of rugby played in horrendous conditions the U10 B team showed a huge number of qualities that as a teacher you want to see in your pupils, not just on the sports field but in life in general. Playing against a big and powerful side the team started well but missed a few tackles and went in at half time losing 4 tries to 2. The second half though was the best performance of the season as we came from behind to draw 30 all, and in truth we could and probably should have won. The team had to dig deep and the first half tested their resilience and teamwork but the reaction in the second half was a sight to behold. Adam Bashir’s running with the ball, Raihan Ahmed’s tackling and Lemuel Adjei’s tenacity were the catalysts for a fightback they should all be very proud of. Well done, you all deserve it!

U10A Rugby v Bromsgrove
Date: Wednesday 7th November
Result: BCS 0-35 Bromsgrove
Most Valued Player: Hari Phillips
Report: A tough match against strong opposition in wet conditions. This was the boys first real contest, a big and physical Bromsgrove side who really put our boys to the test. They were strong runners taking the ball at pace, smashing the rucks and pushing up hard in defence, putting our attack under a lot of pressure. This certainly took us by surprise and in the wet conditions the boys weren’t able to play their usual offload game and struggled to go forward. In the second half the boys really stepped up and started competing in the rucks and running harder onto the ball and were rewarded with a lot more possession. I think this was a really good learning opportunity for the boys and gives us lots to work on for the upcoming weeks.

Date: Tuesday 6th November
Result: BCS 1-0 Hallfield
Most Valued Player: Emily Smallwood
Report: A great start back to the term and a well deserved win. The girls worked hard to get the ball forward and had the majority of possession. Our defence came to meet the ball, were strong in the tackle and are beginning to look before they pass which is great. We still need to work on holding our shape although there was a big improvement on this this week.

Most Valued Player: Anoushka Hart
Report: The U9 girls second fixture against Hallfield School. Last time they drew so the girls were eager to be victorious in today’s match. As always, the girls started really strong and quickly secured the first goal. There were some lovely examples of effective teamwork and you really can see the team developing as the weeks go on, which is great. However, Hallfield were just as eager for the win and before half time they equalised. Our defence worked really hard throughout the game clearing the ball, but Hallfield did not give up and in the second half took the lead with a second goal. Unfortunately, even though we had a number of shots at goal we just couldn’t finish it. Final scored 2-1 to Hallfield. Lots of positives to take from the game and as always things we can work on!

Result: BCS 3-0 Bromsgrove
Most Valued Player: Joanne Bobin
Report: Having won our away match against Bromsgrove in the first half term the team remained focused and started the match with a clear mind knowing this would not be a walk over. We started off strong with Natasha dominating the whole midfield, being strong in her tackles she played the ball forwards and Lily competently sent her shot past the keeper. With Chloe keeping calm in defence on the ball, we played from the back and through Joanne we progressed the ball forwards and Tara pressured the ball to allow Matilda to score a goal. This was an awesome team goal and really showed how the team had come together over the term. In the second half, having endured the showers, the rain started to come down quite heavily but not one of the team got distracted. Emma stayed focused in goal as Bromsgrove started quite strongly. We soon changed the pace of the game and became dominant again and all players looked confident on the ball. Several chances passed but eventually Matilda broke free to score an excellent individual goal. An awesome display of hockey, girls, well done!
Scorer: Lily (1), Matilda (2)

Report: An enjoyable afternoon of hockey where the girls competed against Bromsgrove U10A&B team. Both teams were evenly matched and saw the ball move from one end to another without either team being able to finish. Both teams had a strong defence clearing the ball out of the D with some strong tackles. Blue Coat girls need to develop their confidence to keep the ball and dribble in the game, as a number of times we had the space to move the ball up the pitch but decided to pass without looking up first. Unfortunately, neither team were able to score and ended 0-0. A very good effort though ladies!

Most Valued Player: Gracie Roberts
Report: Although raining it did not dampen the team’s spirits and they got off to a fabulous start with Gracie conducting her team like an orchestra from midfield. Both Lucy and Mashami pressured the opposition right from the start which paid off as Lucy won the ball and passed through to Amy to score. Daisy worked hard up and down the left and tracked her player back to help Ava in defence and confidently they cleared the ball. Caitlin did not have much to do in goal but showed great concentration throughout the match and made saves when needed. Gracie continued to control the game and deservedly was paid off with 2 goals for her team and a player of the match reward. A fantastic win for the girls.

U10 & U11 A Swimming v Eversfield
Date: Thursday 8th November
Result: BCS 72-48 Eversfield
Most Valued Player: U10 Boys’ Team
Report: We travelled to Eversfield for our second swimming gala of the term against them, in what would be a fine display of swimming from BCS. It was our first outing for the U10 and U11A teams, after an intense few months of training. Our race skills were excellent, demonstrating technically proficient swimming across all strokes. The evening finished on a high with the score being BCS 72 – 48 Eversfield. Thank you Eversfield for your excellent hospitality as always. We are looking forward to swimming against Bromsgrove and Warwick next week.
