National Handwriting Day was started to reintroduce one’s self to a pen or pencil and a piece of paper.  According to the Writing Instrument Manufacturers Association, it is a chance for all to explore the purity and cognitive power of handwriting. January 23rd was chosen as this is the birthday of John Hancock, who was the first person to sign the Declaration of Independence. At The Blue Coat School, we encourage precursive handwriting and pupils across the school have been celebrating writing even more today in their own special way!
