Thank you to the parents in Reception that were able to attend our Parent Workshop focusing on Maths. After an informative introduction from Mrs West about the importance of children fully understanding mathematical concepts, the teachers in Reception showed what maths looks like in the classroom to the parents. In the children’s previous lesson, they had been introduced to pictograms and they had learnt that a pictogram is a chart that uses pictures to represent data. They had also discussed what their favourite fruit was, and the results were represented on the interactive whiteboard as tally marks and numerals. In today’s lesson the task involved the children working collaboratively with a partner and their parents to represent this information onto a pictogram. Once the children had completed the task, the parents were encouraged to ask their child questions relating to the pictogram results. The children were fantastic at working with their partner to take turns and answering a variety of questions.
