U10 & U11 A B Swimming Gala v Holy Trinity
Date: Tuesday 12th February
Result: BCS 155 – 131 Holy Trinity
Most Valued Player: Milo Dowling
Report: What a amazing gala to end the first half term of Lent! We welcomed a very strong Holy Trinity side to Blue Coat in what was always going to be a competitive swimming gala. There were some fantastic and strong performances from both schools which only added excitement to the event. Milo Dowling swam up an age group and dominated the U11 25m Freestyle, winning by a body length. For all our efforts we were rewarded with the gala finishing BCS 155 – 131 Holy Trinity.

U11 A Netball v Paganel Primary
Date: Tuesday 5th February
Result: BCS 14-0 Paganal
Most Valued Player: Kate Stockton
Report: Blue Coat showed great sportsmanship in the game today. Although we were the stronger team the girls tried hard to keep their shape and work the ball down the court. The opposition showed great determination and put up some excellent defence, especially in the D which challenged our girls. A few girls also got to play out of position which was a good learning experience. well played girls!

U9B Tournament at King’s Hawford
Date: Thursday 7th February
Result: BCS1- 1 Abberley, BCS 5-1 Malvern St James BCS 0-0 Wolverhampton Grammar, BCS 1- 3 KSA, BCS 0- 9 Malvern the Downs
Report: A lovely afternoon of Netball at King’s Hawford last Thursday. Although it was windy, the sun was shining and the girls were very excited to play lots of netball. They played well over all with some close games. They managed to secure a place into the semi-finals, winning their group. A well deserved achievement. They walked into the semi-finals confidently and although they knew they were up against tough opposition, Malvern The Downs, the girls showed their potential and really raised their game. Although, the final score did not reflect (0-9) how well the girls played, they should be really pleased with how they performed as a team. It wasn’t the prettiest of games to watch from our side but the girls really worked hard together right up until the final whistle. This loss resulted in them playing for 4th and 5th place against King’s St Alban’s, a team they had already played in the group stage and won against. However, King’s came back fighting with something to prove and unfortunately the girls lost this game 0-3. The U9B team ended up finishing 5th, which out of 11 teams is a really good achievement. Well done girls.

U10A Netball v King’s Hawford
Date: Monday 11th February
Result: BCS-6- King’s Hawford 9
Most Valued Player: Emily Whitehouse
Report: A slow start from the U10A team resulted in the girls losing at the end of the first quarter 5-2. However, with a couple of changes and the girls listening to specific feedback they prevented their shooters from scoring half as many goals in the second quarter making it 6-3 at half time. As a team the girls understand where they need to be positioned but need to execute this every time, just like our opposition. For the ball to travel down the court from defence through to the attack in the safest way the girls need to space out. The girls need to practise driving backwards and forwards rather than bunching together, window wiping and all wanting the ball at the same time. I do love the girls’ desire to win and this is what won us the third quarter bring the score to 6-7. Unfortunately, King’s Hawford came back fighting in the final quarter finishing the game 9-6. Let’s keep working hard girls, we can do this!

U9 A Netball Tournament
Date: Thursday 7th February
Result: BCS 2 – 1 RGS, BCS 1-1 Hallfield, BCS 2-3 Winterfold, BCS 2-3 Malvern The Downs, BCS 5-1 King’s Hawford, BCS 5-1 Abberley Hall
Report: With 11 school entered this was a fabulous show of U9 netball. We held our own against every school and were particularly strong when working the ball from defence to attack. Unfortunately, with limited practice shooting we just could not get the ball in and through the hoop. By our last league match we had started to score nearly all shots taken and this was our biggest win in the league against King’s Hawford 5-1. We then went through to the knock out stages and again we beat Abberley convincingly 5-1. We came back up against Winterfold who we had lost to in the league but on the second occasion we finished on a draw. We came 5th overall on goal difference – hopefully with more practice during next half term we will all be ready and more accurate when it comes to our match play.

U11 A Netball v King’s Hawford
Date: Wednesday 13th February
Result: BCS 17-20 King’s Hawford
Most Valued Player: Matilda Goodrham
Report: A fantastic end to end game of netball. A great test for the girls before the IAPS tournament after half term, the girls really stepped up, stayed in the game and were unlucky not to claw the score back. Blue Coat were put under a lot of pressure which forced our girls to tighten up their timing and really work to get free. Defensive blocking in the D provided a new challenge for our shooters and gives us something to work on next week. A great game to watch, although I know the girls were disappointed to lose, they kept their heads high and hopefully learnt lots from the match.

U11B v King’s Hawford
Date: Wednesday 13th February
Result: BCS 19-0 Kings Hawford
Most Valued Player: E Martin
Report: All of their hard work in Games lessons and performance groups after school is paying off as the B team completely outclassed King’s Hawford on the court. The whole team were strong in their defence winning the ball through interceptions and just wanting it more. The pace the ball moved in attack was fabulous to see and our girls played hard right until the final whistle. A special mention for Lexie who switched from defence to attack so swiftly her effort to win the ball was phenomenal. Well done girls – a cracking display of netball skills shown.

U10 C Football v Solihull
Date: Monday 5th February
Result: BCS 1 – 4 Solihull
Report: My time this afternoon was split between the U10Cs and Ds. The U10Cs started aggressively and kept a good structure to their game. Quick balls out to Simeon Hughes on the wing provided a constant feed of scoring opportunities for Oje to only be denied by outstanding goal keeping. A good solid defensive by Alessandro and Ben Southall kept thing secure at the back. Blue Coat were unfortunate to not score in the first half despite the constant pressure the whole team put on Solihull. I left the game 0-0 at half time.

U10 D Football V Solihull
Date: Monday 5th February
Result: BCS 1 – 0 Solihull
Report: My time this afternoon was split between the U10Cs and Ds. I joined the Ds in the second half to which the boys told me their strengths in the first half was their passing but they needed to be more accurate with their shooting. I joined a fast pace, end to end game with every player getting involved. They boys played well as team and put constant pressure on the Solihull defence. Eventually the deadlock was broken with a terrific finish from James Padley. The boys deserve the win and perform extremely well to say it was some of the boy’s first Football match. Well done all.

U9 St Philip’s v U9 St George’s
Date: Tuesday 12th February
Result: St Phil’s 0 – 5 St George
Report: Today’s game was a showcase of the learning and the development of the players over the past 6 weeks. Every boy should be proud of what they have achieved and the progress they have made despite the score line on the day. The game itself was fiercely competitive but it was also obvious the boys were having a great time. The game was played in the correct spirit and each pupil should be proud of their performance. On the day St George’s were more structured and were able to capitalise on their attacks.

U10 City v United
Date: Monday 11th February
Result: City 2-2 United
Most Valued Player: A Pemble (United). O Tucker (City)
Report: This was a match played in good spirit with some great dribbling skills on display especially from Rohan, Oliver and Asad who were keen to get the ball down the wing and try to score with Oliver’s hard work paying off in the first quarter with 2 good goals. In the second quarter, United started to defend harder with stronger tackles being made by Bertie and Keerat this kept the likes of Kabir and Gabriel for City at bay and the second quarter there were no goals scored. The passing in both teams improved as the match went on and Henry stayed solid for his City side winning tackles and getting stuck in in the middle of the pitch. In the 3rd quarter Dexter passed the ball through to Archie who showed great determination to keep pressuring the ball til he finally scored. I have never seen a happier goal celebration. After the big transfer signing Boyi went to play in the last Quarter for United and defended with all his might and Archie again put the ball in the back of the net to make the match a draw.

U11B vs King’s St Alban’s
Date: Wednesday 13th February
Result: BCS 1 – 4 KSA
Most Valued Player: Dhruv Susarla
Report: The score line to this match does not represent what happened in the game whatsoever. Unfortunately Football can be a cruel game. Wave and wave of attack, shot after shot was fired but nothing went into the net. The U11B’s kept a good structure to their game, played the ball out from the back and kept procession of the ball well. The constant attacking pressure meant when KSA were able to counter attack they did so with speed and accuracy. A lesson to be learned, it’s not about the number of shots but the number of goals that win a game. A special mention to Dhruv for one of the bravest and agile performances in goal I have ever seen.

U10A vs Solihull
Date: Monday 11th February
Result: BCS 2 – 2 Solihull
Most Valued Player: A great team effort
Report: In probably the best game of football I have had the pleasure to referee at Blue Coat two very evenly matched teams produced a stunning display in which a draw was a fair result. The speed and tempo of the game was exceptional with both teams probing and prodding at the opposition and the momentum of the match swang one way then the other. Solihull scored first before Blue Coat hit back with 2 goals, the second a well worked team goal from Adam Bashir. Solihull equalised with 5 minutes to go. The last minute summed up the whole game with Blue Coat nearly scoring from a corner before having to defend bravely in the last few seconds! A great game and well done to all.

U11 Aston Villa Festival
Date: Wednesday 13th February
Most Valued Player: Felix Iliff for excellent defending
Report: The U11’s took part in the AV Grand Finals day on Wednesday and all the boys acquitted themselves well in a very difficult festival played on very small pitches which made the games very congested. Although results didn’t go in our favour with 2 draws and 2 losses both of the losses were by a single goal. I think for some of the players it was an eye opener into the standard of football some of these players are playing at with some schools having Academy players on their teams. This said I felt we did well and I was pleased with how the team gelled together.
