Karen is The BCS Young Musician of the Year 2019! After two weeks of amazing music-making, Mrs Nadia Hinson, our esteemed adjudicator, chose Karen to be this year’s worthy winner! Karen, currently working toward Grade 7 piano and Grade 6 viola, is a member of The Royal Birmingham Junior Conservatoire Orchestra. She thrilled a packed recital hall on Wednesday night with a dazzling rendition of Kabalevsky’s Piano Sonatina Opus 13 No 1 (3rd Movt.).
This year’s Music Festival has been a window into the extraordinary musical talent we have at our school, not just from Karen, but from each of the 151 pupils who took part. Mrs Hinson had the unenviable task of choosing one overall winner. Each of the semi-finalists will receive Mrs Hinson’s detailed performance notes. Every child who took part also receives a competitor’s certificate! Well done to everybody. I am a very proud Director of Music.
Next Saturday 30 March is the Spring Concert in Chapel. The Chapel Choir and BCS Choral Society are performing Haydn’s Nelson Mass accompanied by a professional orchestra. The concert starts at 7pm.
