As Mr Neeson notified you all in his update last week, we held the English Schools Swimming Association (ESSA) regional swimming gala here last Friday. We entered an A and B U11 Boys and Girls team to represent the school in both the Freestyle and Medley relay. We welcomed Bromsgrove, RGS, WGJS, EHSG and Perry Beeches to what was a fantastic gala with some fast swimming from all schools. With one more qualifying gala to go at Warwick, we eagerly await to see if we have qualified for the National Final held at Ponds Forge. Our Blue Coat swimmers swam well and fingers crossed we have qualified!

On Monday we held yet another National swimming event here at Blue Coat. We hosted the Independent Association of Preparatory Schools (IAPS) regional swimming gala. Joined by Warwick, Bromsgrove, WGJS and RGS this is the first time in the history of Blue Coat we have hosted an IAPS event and what a huge success it was! We had some very fast swims from Blue Coat swimmers and like with ESSA, we await the results to see whether we have qualified for the National Final held at the London Aquatics Centre. Special mention to Freddie Trevis who has broken the school record in the Senior 25m Breaststroke in a new time of 20 seconds.

I’d like to personally thank all of the sports staff, sports centre staff, SLT, admin and the estates team in helping with the hosting of these two prestigious National swimming events.

On Tuesday a team of 16 swimmers swam in the King Edwards and King Edwards High School for Girls joint swimming gala. This was a fantastic opportunity for our swimmers to experience the teaching of the two schools and have a tour of the sporting facilities. Our swimmers swam well, with plenty of medals being won by them all.

On Thursday we hosted the Year 5 Inter House Swimming Gala. With some fast swims from all swimmers, we have counted the points which will go towards to final tally at the end of the year!

Overall it has been an incredible week of swimming for Blue Coat and something as a school community we can be proud of.

Mr Kelly
