BOYS’ CRICKET
U10D v West House
Date: Monday 13th May
Result: BCS lose by 4 runs
Most Valued Player: Lemuel Adjei
Report: A perfect day for the opening game for the U10Ds. BCS fielded first putting the pressure on with the bowling. The best over bowled by Lemuel losing just 2 runs from his 6 balls. With the bat we were aggressive and looking for runs. A strong partnership saw Asad and Henry score 32 runs not out in 4 overs. A good performance for the first game of the year.

U10A v West House
Date: Monday 13th May
Result: BCS WIN by 1 run
Most Valued Player: Oliver Almond for excellent batting and wicket keeping
Report: In what was a riveting game of cricket BCS U10s performed magnificently to beat West House for the first time. The standards set were excellent by both teams and the result could have gone either way. As a team we bowled beautifully with Vinnay Ratti showing excellent promise as a seamer. James Padley bowled superbly as well and we managed to restrict West House to a score of 223. In our batting we batted well although we lost of few too many wickets along the way. Our running between the wickets though was far better than West House and we got to the last over leading by 4! The 3rd ball though there was a wicket and we were now 1 run behind. Thankfully Aarav and Yousuf managed to scamper one to leave the scores tied before the final ball. The bowler bowled, the keeper missed it and we scampered through for the winning run, SUPERB!!!!

U9C v West House
Date: Tuesday 14th May
Result: BCS Win by 10 runs
Most Valued Player: Neil Nair for excellent bowling and batting
Report: The U9C team made it 2 wins from two with a comprehensive victory against West House. Both teams bowled well although both need to reduce the amount of wides. But it was the running between the wickets that made the difference with BCS gaining far more runs of the bat through good intent to run.

U9A v West House
Date: Tuesday 14th May
Result: BCS lose by 10 runs
Most Valued Player: Harris Rahman
Report: BCS selected to field first and demonstrated some consistent and fierce bowling. Dylan Ram managing a maiden and with Harris, Harry and Jai all keeping their overs under 3 runs demonstrated how well we bowled. We bowled West House for a reasonable 285. A slow start with the batting however they were facing a very fast and accurate bowler. Once settled Harris soon found his groove and hit 6 4’s in the last two overs. Dylan and Jack had a partnership of 36 not out, Jai and Oliver with 23 but took 3 wickets and Konark and Harry scoring 31 but taking a wicket. We lost a total of 9 wickets but we still managed to score a total of 275, losing by just 10 runs. We need to focus on removing the errors within bowling and a bit more footwork within batting.

U11C V Bromsgrove
Date: Wednesday 15th May
Result: BCS lose by 50 runs
Most Valued Player: Flynn McLoughlin
Report: A tough start to the season against a consistent and well-drilled Bromsgrove squad. Selecting to bat first, BCS quickly got runs on the score sheet. A great innings from Zuhair and Arjun Bajwa hit 38 runs over 4 overs for no wickets taken. A special mention to Flynn who has decisive and aggressive with his running, making early calls and running hard. BCS struggled to get their line and length right when bowling and the uneven pitch didn’t help matters. Our lowest scoring over was Luke Allen losing just 3 runs in an over. A shaky start to the season but with practice, especially with our bowling and we can become a competitive team.

U11B v Bromsgrove
Date: Wednesday 15th May
Result: BCS lose by 30 runs
Most Valued Player: Pardeep Sohal
Report: The U11B came up against a very strong Bromsgrove side but performed admirably with some players really performing well. Pardeep Sohal was excellent with bat and ball striking so lusty blows towards the end, Imaan Iqbal showed some potential with the bat again striking some lovely shots. The biggest lesson though for the boys is in bowling more accurately and this will only come through concerted effort and practice.

U9D Boys Cricket v West House
Date: Tuesday 14th May
Result: BCS lose by 33 runs
Report: Having lost the toss we went into bat first and started off well with the pairing of Inigo and Toby finishing with a valuable 15 runs. Yasin and Khaleel batted really well but unfortunately they ended up with minus 2 due to their wickets being taken whilst trying to score runs.Rohan and Aaryan scored 21 runs however, finished on 16 as they lost 1 wicket. Noah and Daniel worked really well as a pair and and made some great runs but losing 2 wickets in the process meant they scored 12. Joshua and John came into bat last and only lost 1 wicket whilst gaining 12 runs in total for their team. Although we lost from looking at the score sheet it is quite clear that we were the better team in bat and made the most amount of actual runs. As a team we really need to concentrate on our bowling and making sure we give away less wides as this was giving the opposition easy runs.

U8B Boys Cricket v West House
Date: Thursday 16th May
Result: BCS lose by 5 runs
Most Valued Player: Arjun Gill
Report: A promising first game of the season for the U8B’s against West house. BCS opened with the batting and stuck to the game plan exceedingly well. Not only did they display good batting skills but also good vision and awareness to steal several runs for every shot made. Well done to Daisy and Robert with a score of 27 not out. Furthermore well done to Robert for bowling the only maiden in the game closely followed by Arjun, Daisy and Vivek who all bowled losing only 4 runs in their overs. Well done to all involved, continue to practice moving forward to the ball in the bat and your bowling action, keeping your arm straight at all times.

GIRLS’ CRICKET
U9A Girls Cricket House Match
Date: Tuesday 14th May
Result: St Monica’s 228-276 St Margaret’s
Most Valued Player: Claire Happ & Lucy Evans
Report: A new sport for the girls and promising start to the cricket season. The girls have picked up the game really quickly, learning to bat, run between the wickets and bowl overarm. I was really impressed with the accuracy of bowling from a few girls most noticeably Claire Happ, Lucy Evans and Connie Zhang. As the game progressed the girls developed their fielding skills, learning to position themselves and back each other up. Imogen Brinkman did some fantastic batting, moving her feet and hitting the ball hard into space. A great game, played in great spirits, well done girls!

U9C Girls Cricket House Match
Date: Tuesday 14th May
Result: St Margaret’s 228 – St Monica’s 197
Most Valued Player: Polly Paton Elena Mirza
Report: The girls enjoyed exceptionally nice weather for their first ever cricket house match, learning a lot along the way. St Margarets began the batting, working hard in their pairs to see chances to run, as well as learning when not to! St Monica’s did a great job bowling and every girl had a turn. We then swapped and St Monica’s made a valiant attempt but unfortunately couldn’t quite reach St Margaret’s score. Much was learnt about fielding and the importance of always keeping your eye on the ball along the way.

U9B Girls Cricket House Match
Result: St Monica’s 209- 237 St Margaret’s
Most Valued Player: Charlie Serban and Antonella Ottengo
Report: The girls first game of paired cricket and what a lovely afternoon it was. The girls made such an improvement throughout the game and they should be really proud of themselves. There were some great examples of both fielding, batting and bowling, we just need to work on improving our consistency in these skills now! St Margaret’s batted first, securing 237 runs, giving St Monica’s a tough challenge however, one they were eager to beat. It was fairly close right up until the end unfortunately, St Monica’s needed to improve their decision making skills as they risked too many runs allowing St Margarets to stump the batters out. Well done though girls, I was really impressed.
