U11A & B Boys’ Hockey v Solihull School (A)

A – BCS 0 – 5 Solihull

B – BCS 4 – 2 Solihull

This was the hardest pre season fixture for the boys, who by the third period, had a little Friday afternoon lethargy in their legs. It was a superb learning platform for all of them, who got the opportunity to play in the A team. Solihull did well to work the right hand side of the pitch, hitting across goal for a couple of clinical goals. Ali Ahmed and Freddy Williams linked play well on our left hand side, ably suport by Zain Ahmed. We just couldn’t get that clinical outcome inside their D. Adam Bashir scored two fantastic goals for the B team with awesome close skills to evade a defender.

U10A & B Football v Hallfield School (A)

BCS 4-2

Player of the Match: Konark Basu

A fantastic performance by the U10As saw them perform brilliantly to record a 4-2 victory against Hallfield. Seb Stendall and Jai Lewis were magnificent in midfield as was Harry Forty in defence, however man of the match has to go to Konark Basu for a wonderful hat trick. He was ‘Vardy’ like, a proper fox in the box and it was great to see!

U10A Netball v Solihull School (A)

BCS 9-6 Solihull

Player of the Match: Zuva M-Redmond

A excellent start to the netball season against a Solihull side who have already played a term of netball. I was really impressed by the Blue Coat girls, they started well, defending hard, marking their players and gaining well timed interceptions. In attack we worked the ball up the court but need to remember to drive forward and cut in front to receive the pass. The girls linked well and with a bit more practice have the potential to make a great netball side.

U10B Netball v Solihull School (A)

BCS 1- Solihull 1

Scorer: Alexandra Souter (1)

Player of the Match: Connie Zhang

The girls had an excellent start to their netball season and hit the ground running, quite literally. The first quarter was goalless, which was impressive given Solihull have already played a full season of netball. Danae, Georgina and Connie made some excellent interceptions and Siyena, Yandy and Poppy worked hard to get free and use the space on the court. Alex and Millie were dynamic in the shooting D, and this put the pressure on Solihull’s defence. Going forward, the girls now need to work on getting the ball into the D and driving forward to cut in front to receive the pass.

U10C Netball v Solihull School (A)

BCS 2-2 Solihull

Player of the Match: Maya McCracken

This match was a good indication of how we are improving in our depth across all sports as Solihull starting playing netball in September. Having only had two lessons to practice we did well at times to move the ball down the court effectively with Imogen Mudie and Maya linking well in attack. Throughout the game there were moments where we would stood still rather than driving into space at pace but the defensive team of Elena and Karman kept Solihull’s goal tally down. The team coped well when changing positions and again showed good understanding and knowledge of the game. We now need to work on maintaining our passing order and ultimately scoring more goals.

U10D Netball v Solihull School (A)

BCS 1-1 Solihull

Player of the Match: Charli Clements

Lola started in her first netball match for BCS and with Amelia being moved up a team she took quite a like to the goal shooter position. Aiza impressed me with her defensive ability and movement in centre court whereas Emily’s stamina and cross-country training is paying off, she continued to sprint and work hard throughout the whole game never giving up on any ball and intercepting many passes throughout the match. Our ability to get the ball down to our shooters was greater than Solihull and Charli proved hard to mark in the circle however, we need to start turning our shots into goals.

U9A Netball v WGJS (H)

BCS15-1 WGJS

Player of the Match: Lois Hughes

A Brilliant start to the season for the U9A team, their first experience of BEE Netball where they rotate round and play different positions each quarter. The girls demonstrated that they have a real diverse skill set, showing an ability to play both attack and defensive positions. There was some lovely play working the ball into the shooting circle, showing a real understanding of releasing the ball at the right time and to the player on the move, fantastic! In defence we were hungry for the ball and made many tips, I think as a team we can work on going for those interceptions with two hands. Overall a very impressive start by all of the girls. Well done, a pleasure as always.

U9B Netball v WGJS (H)

BCS 7- 0 WGJS

Player of the Match: Isabella Gabriel

The girls got off to a great start moving into space and passing the ball quickly down the court. Accurate shooting in the D gave us an early lead. In the second quarter we stopped sprinting into the space and the players all crowded for the ball which made it difficult to pass. Blue Coat sorted this out in the final 2 quarters and were able to score a few more goals. A great start to the season, well done girls.

U9A, B, C & D Football v RGS The Grange (H)

BCS 8 – 0 RGS The Grange

It really was a fantastic all round team performance from the U9As. The clean sheet was just as pleasing as the goals we scored with Jonty Scurlock standing tall to block two 1v1 shots in the second half. The game started with an electric pace and Blue Coat were soon in the clear with James Longworth and Arjun Gill clinical in front of goal. Vivek Ratti didn’t miss a high ball in defence and got us playing forward. Jackson Bennett and Robert Miller played through midfield lines, read the game well and created plenty of goal scoring opportunities.

BCS 3-1 RGS The Grange

Player of the Match: Karam Gill

A great performance by the U9B team saw them record a deserved 3-1 victory against RGS The Grange. The whole team played much more like a team this week and passed the ball much better. Karam Gill was a constant menace to the opposition winning the ball back high up the field.

U9A, B, C & D Football v RGS The Grange (H)

BCS 6 – 1 RGS

Player of the Match: Sam Lawton

It was a great experience for the boys to play on the Birmingham University AstroTurf this afternoon, and it inspired them to play some excellent football. The first half was dominated by some strong running with the ball, and this was highlighted by Z. Ahmed’s fantastic solo run and strike into the net. The side were instructed to pass the ball more in the second half and the response was great. There were several cleverly worked moves, and S Lawton and T Cowley were both instrumental. A great win boys!

U11 Football Tournament at Winterfold House School

Runners up – Shield

Player of the Match: Mati Stendall

A superb team effort at the Matty Thacker Football competition saw the U11A’s draw 3 games and win 5 games to reach the Shield final. Their ability to remain calm off the ball, accurate passing over short and long distances and clinical finishing saw dominating performances especially in the semi-final against Hereford Cathedral School. The boys kept their shape well in attack and defence, running off the ball well to create space. Albeit BCS had already drawn against RGS in the group stages, they applied pressure quickly and efficiently making it hard for us to get the ball into their half and keep the ball. Despite the pressure, long balls from Mati and John from the back allowed Adam to create a few chances. A great start to the Football season but back to the training session ready for the next game.

U11A Netball v Bromsgrove School (A)

BCS 3-21 Bromsgrove

Player of the Match: Amrita Dhillon

This was our first match of the term and certainly showed us we have a lot still to learn. Defensively we marked well but then we could not readjust quick enough to attack mode and simply gave possession back to Bromsgrove. Whilst we were managing to get the ball to our shooters from centre passes we were not maximising our chance and missed lots of shots and lost the rebounds on a day where their shooter did not seem to miss any shots as the Bromsgrove score pulled away. The team showed grit though as they continued to try their best and agreed we need more time to practice to get our passing order sorted.

U11B Netball v Bromsgrove School (A)

BCS 0-12 Bromsgrove

Player of the Match: Gloriosa Sung

An exciting afternoon of Netball at Bromsgrove School for our U11B team, their first fixture of the season. We arrived and were told we were playing inside their arena. A lovely facility to play some netball in. The girls warmed up well and were eager to get started. Bromsgrove were a very strong team and demonstrated some lovely movement on and off the ball. Taking the lead very early on, leaving the score in the first quarter 4-0. As we went into the second quarter, Bromsgrove did not let up and we conceded another 4 goals. At half time, we reset and went out in the third quarter fighting. Getting many interceptions and tips on the ball. Unfortunately we gave a number of those interceptions straight back as we made more decisions with our passing, often passing over head. However, this did slow Bromsgrove down and in the second half of the game we conceded half the number of goals as in the first half of the game. The girls should be commended for not dropping their heads and fighting till the final whistle. We need to go back to lessons and work on passing the ball to the moving player running forwards! Good effort though girls, always a pleasure.

U11C Netball v Bromsgrove School (H)

BCS 6-9 Bromsgrove

Player of the Match: Anjali Ajayaghosh

Blue Coat got off to a slow start, crowding the ball and being indecisive with the pass. Bromsgrove took advantage of this and quickly took the lead. As the game progressed Blue Coat got much better at spreading out and passing round defenders rather than trying to pass over the top. The girls finished on a real high winning the last quarter 4 goals to 1.

U11D Netball v Bromsgrove School (H)

BCS3-5 Bromsgrove

Player of the Match: Tabitha Vlok

The girls had a productive start in the first twenty minutes with the three goals coming easy from Tabitha Vlok. However when Bromsgrove had warmed up they took control and were able to pull back and lead with the possession. The girls worked hard however, but need to be using a variety of passes to avoid giving the opposition too many opportunities. Good effort in defence saw lots of to and fro but unfortunately the passes out of the defence quarter seemed to go straight to the opposition. On a plus though in true Blue Coat spirit the girls persevered with tenacity and lost with good grace.

U11B Football v RGS The Grange (A)

BCS 1 -2 RGS

Player of the Match: Ben Carberry

A superb game between two very evenly matched sides ended in a narrow defeat for BCS. The boys shouldn’t worry to much about this as they played some excellent football but some of them had left their shooting boots behind! This game could easily have finished 6-6 but both teams lacked composure in front of goal. Ben Carberry had an excellent match distributing the ball well and terrorising the opposition with his movement, all he needs to add now is the finishing and we will have a mini Mane on our hands!!

U11C Football v RGS The Grange (A)

BCS 9 – 7 RGS The Grange

Very hard to keep track! Rayyan Ali had calmness and composure personified. This game was electric from the moment it kicked off. It was helped by the fact that the goals were XL in size for this age group, but it made the game more fun. By half time Blue Coat had established a 5-1 lead so we challenged them with a new formation and goalkeeper. Simeon Hughes and James Padley provided superb width and pace, that created plenty of opportunity for Temi Adenopo and Oje Akhibi to be calm in front of goal. My real take away was our passing accuracy and the ability to move the ball on the floor. Great fun.

BCS 2 – 1 RGS

Scorers: Archie Pemble and Oliver Tucker

Player of the Match: Ali Ahmed

A very close game in which the boys worked hard and played together as a team. We were dominant in midfield and created lots of chance which Archie and Oliver were able to take. Overall a very good game of football and well deserved win for Blue Coat.
