U10A Netball v Hallfield School (A)
BCS 5-2 Hallfield
Player of the match: Claire Happ
A frantic first quarter in blustery conditions. The girls struggled to find space often getting in each other’s way and rushing the pass. Despite this Blue Coat managed to take an early lead. In the next 2 quarters the girls settled, timing their runs and working the ball down the bcourt to score some good goals. They also got much better at coming forward for the ball and getting in front of their defender which helped with the windy conditions. In the final quarter Hallfield stepped up their defence and we found it hard to get the ball into the D, definitely an area we will work on in future weeks. A good win against our local rivals well done girls.

U10A Football v King Henry VIII School (H)
BCS 6 -3
Player of the match: Jai Lewis
The U10 A had a hard fought victory against a well drilled KH team, The boys worked hard and the game was evenly matched but for the workrate of Seb Stendall and technical ability of Jai Lewis who had his shooting boots on and bagged a hatrick! Harry Forty was again excellent in defence and Sam Tan showed glimpses of superb football intelligence. Overall another good performance by the boys.

U10 B Football v King Henry VIII School (H)
BCS 3 – 1 King Henry
Player of the match: Henry Coughlan
A superb venue for the U10B fixture, playing at the University of Birmingham 4G pitch – a great experience for the boys. A slightly shaky start with King Henry’s clearing their line with a big boot of the ball resulted in a one on one opportunity which they capitalised on quickly. Once BCS sorted their structure, King Henry’s had very few opportunities after their first goal. We applied pressure and kept the ball in their half successfully for most of the first half. Ateeb, Toby and Jack were all able to play nice two touch Football passing the ball around the defence. A delightful and I’m sure “intentional” lob of the goal keeper by Henry Coughlan was one of the highlights of the match. In the second half, we didn’t make life easy for ourselves by giving the ball away in our own half. However Sam Hodges steadied the ship and produced some fantastic saves to keep us in the game. A good performance with some focus on attack using the wings in games!

U10D Football v King Henry VIII School (H)
BCS 2 – 3 King Henry VIII
Player of the match: Kiran Bhatt & Nathan Molsom showed the most energy and willingness to get forward and attack
Playing at the University Astro, the D team went ahead early through a long range shot by Aryan Sharma. The lead didn’t last long as King Henry’s showed a little more composure in front of goal. Toby Mantle and Hriday Parekh did their best to defend a heavy onslaught of shots, and KHVIII managed to sneak a winner in the final minute for the game.

U11 AVFC 6-a-side Tournament
Won 8 drew 2 lost 2
Player of the match: Adam Bashir
Indoor, 6 a side and on narrow pitches was completely different to everything we have trained for this season. The focus was on positioning and quick ball. The U11A’s adapted quickly and competently, displaying controlled Football from the start. Goal kicks became a new tactic with Filippos providing a direct ball. Long range shots became an important part of the game as teams sat back and put bodies behind the ball. Adam and Mati provided the firepower from distance whilst Will, Oliver and Ben provided the pressure around the box. In the final, we took an early lead but succumbed to two superbly taken long range shots. Not the perfect ending however enough of a result to get through to the next round.

U9E & F Football v RGS The Grange & Kings Hawford (A)
A complete mixture of results as we played 5 matches in total Lucius and Felix were real standouts with superb work rates and excellent goalscoring. A fantastic afternoon for the U9s as many were having their first ever experience of a fixture. Whilst the coach journey and match tea may have been enough to encapsulate the pupils, on the pitch they really put in a top shift. Jing Yuan used both feet to dribble smoothly and eliminate players in midfield. Louis Thornwell kept himself busy in defence, showing good positional awareness. Our main goal scoring hero was Lucius who seemed to be faster and more energetic than anyone on the field. A fun afternoon.

U9A Netball v RGS The Grange (H)
Won 8-0 RGS
Player of the match: Anusha Singh
The U9 A team played their second game of the season yesterday and they showed us again how versatile they are as a squad, having the ability to play in a variety of positions and different combinations of players. They are really starting to listen and take on board feedback, which is having a positive impact on the game. Their passing and moving skills against RGS were really strong overall and the girls are starting to show an understanding for creating space for one another! We won the ball back on a number of occasions, showing some excellent fight from the girls, working the ball down the court safely we had a number of chances at goal. Something we do need to work on for our next game however, is our passing in and out of the circle in attack. We need to hold our space in the correct position around the circle edge to support our shooters. Overall though the girls had a super game and even better result. Well done!

U9 B Netball v RGS The Grange (H)
Lost 3-5 RGS
Anya (2) Isabella (1)
Player of the match: Rosa Lester
An exciting afternoon of Netball, playing RGS at home. RGS started off really sharp and scored quickly in the first quarter. This gave RGS girls the confidence to push on and they took a confident early lead. Our girls were slower off the mark and took a while to settle into the game. However, once they did they demonstrated some lovely passages of play where they demonstrated some fast drives onto the ball. Anya Kapil in particular demonstrated some lovely footwork on the ball enabling her to compose herself after receiving a ball while on the move. Some excellent defence from Elaine and Liang Zi who managed a number of interceptions throughout the game. However, we were unable to finish and score when getting the ball into our circle. A little bit of shooting practice is in order I think. Overall a good level of Netball, RGS B team was a strong opposition. Well played girls.

U9C Netball v RGS The Grange (A)
BCS 1-5 RGS
Player of the match: Emma He
A fantastic afternoon of netball, the girls really enjoyed playing on a full size court, rotating positions, shooting and remembering where they are allowed to go. As the quarters progressed we got better at passing quickly and moving into space which helped get the ball down court. In the final quarter we were unlucky not to score a few more goals.

U9 D Netball v RGS The Grange (A)
BCS 5 – 1 RGS
Some super netball was on show from these girls on a crisp afternoon at RGS The Grange. The girls were ruthless in defence and gave the opposition very little chance to get into the shooting circle. With the ball, there were some nice phases of passing and our shooters were clinical to ensure a well deserved victory.

U9E Netball v RGS The Grange (A)
BCS 0-6 RGS
Player of the match: Erin Hickebottom
The girls first high five match was away at RGS, with lots of enthusiasm and rotating of the positions. Our Blue Coat girls were a little slow to settle into passing and moving the ball through the court, with only a few attempts at goal in the first two quarters, so they found themselves 4 nil down at half time. With consistent effort the girls’ passing started to flow as they used more space, which led to them having opportunities to score, but were really unlucky not to convert in the final quarter.

U11A Football v RGS The Grange (H)
BCS 2 – 5 RGS
Player of the match: James Protherough
This is hopefully a good wake up call in preparation for ISFA in a few weeks’ time. The game against RGS highlighted the importance of keeping a defensive structure across all parts of the pitch. RGS The Grange were able to keep possession extremely well, using the width of the pitch to stretch our defence. When BCS kept their shape, we were able to apply pressure well, forcing the opposition into making a mistake and producing a quick counter attack. BCS had some good chances, playing quick passes and moving off the ball, unfortunately not having the ball under enough control to produce a clinical finish. A big thank you to Freddie “the gaffer” Trevis for his managerial skills from the side line!

U11B Football v RGS The Grange (H)
BCS 7-3 RGS
Player of the match: Milo Dowling
The scoreline suggests an easy victory which in truth it was but there are lots of things to work on moving forward. Too many of the boys are happy to attack but then when the ball is lost just stand watching rather than getting goal side. We lacked width at times and a number of the players seem to want to run through everyone with the ball rather than give the easy pass. Milo Dowling was the pick of the players with a fearsome shot and also some good goalkeeping.

U11A Netball v RGS The Grange (A)
Mrs Bennett BCS 8 – 15 RGS The Grange
Player of the match: Delina Elias
Five weeks into the term and the team are now starting to look stronger and are making real progress with their team cohesion and passing play. The opposition had 3 very tall players and whilst at first this posed a problem some fast feet and good dodging meant Delina and Jessie could work to get the ball into great shooting positions. Indira was run ragged around the court and did extremely well against a very good netballer and never gave up trying to make interceptions against a player at least one foot taller. Defensively we made good interceptions but seemingly then rushed and gave the ball back to the opposition. This got better as the match progressed and our passing order became better down the court. I look forward to the match on Friday and the Tournament on Saturday in preparation for IAPS.

BCS 2-5 RGS
Player of the match: Priyam Agarwal
A close competitive match against RGS. Blue Coat got off to a slow start crowding the court and rushing the pass. We defended tight and made lots of great interceptions but kept throwing the ball straight back to the opposition. As the game progressed we got better at timing our runs and getting in front of our defender and got the ball down into the D but struggled to score . In the final quarter it all came together, we scored 2 great goals and with a little more time would have got more.

U11D Netball v RGS The Grange (A)
BCS 3- 3 RGS The Grange
Jaya and Lyba
Player of the match: Jaya Sharma Patel
A thrilling afternoon of Netball for the U11D team. The girls played some well-structured and disciplined Netball and it was really exciting to watch the girls execute the set plays that they have been working on in lessons. The girls ability to keep their space and drive forward onto the ball gave them the edge over RGS, however, we were unlucky and unable to finish by getting the ball in the net. The girls didn’t give up though, tirelessly getting interception after interception and bringing the ball safely out of defence into their attacking third. RGS did come back fighting and managed to keep up with us for the entire game, with the score being 2-2 at the end of the third quarter, finishing the game 3-3. A fair result really and one both teams should be pleased with. Well done girls!

Players of the Match: Avni Samra & Rosa Lester
A fantastic opportunity to play lots of netball against some top teams. The girls rotated around the positions, all taking it in turns to shoot, defend and work the ball down court. As the games progressed we got better at understanding our roles and where we are allowed to go on the court. By the end the girls were much better at holding our space and timing our runs to come forward to receive the ball. Considering it was an A team tournament the B team did extremely well and definitely held their own – well done girls.

U8A Netball v Hallfield School (H)
Mrs Bennett BCS 2-0 Hallfield
Lucy Carberry, Mia Sargeant Zoe Dean
The excitement was brewing from early morning in the House for the match in the afternoon. The team was keen and eager to get going and from the off they looked confident with what they needed to do. We won the toss with Mia taking the advantage from the start and we were away with some good interpassing in attack from Anna and Sophie. With good aiming from Mia we went ahead. Hallfield struggled to get the ball from the goal line back into play as marking from Zoe and Aaria was tight. With changes made at every quarter we maintained our good standard and although we had swapped positions the girls did well to adapt from defence to attack and eventually we scored again with Lucy taking her time to make the pressured shot count. We had plenty of shots at goal and the excitement was bubbling but the ball simply did not go through the net. Lydia maintained her focus and made good intercepts to keep the pressure on Hallfield. What a fun afternoon for all the girls involved!
