A Warm Welcome Back to the Library
It has been absolutely wonderful to see children back in the Prep Library this week! Starting with Year 4, pupils are visiting with their classes on a year-group-per-week basis allowing for a deep clean of the space at weekends. It was lovely to hear enthusiastic lists of books the children have enjoyed since we were last together back in March.
I explained to classes that the library is providing a delivery service for now. Using a form they can pick a book or let me choose one for them based on a few questions. All books will, of course, be quarantined for the recommended 72 hours between borrowers.
On the subject of getting great books into the hands of keen young readers – in the not too distant future pupils will get their own login for the library catalogue (Reading Cloud) and be able to browse and reserve books online, as well as writing reviews to help their peers choose what they may like to read next. Watch this space for more information as soon as this is ready to launch!
We also had a quick look at the new Recommended Reading List. These have been updated for each year group to feature a modern and diverse selection of titles as well as the usual, essential classics. I look forward to hearing the chatter about these books as the children begin to read them.
Finally, we can’t do a Library update without mentioning that it was Roald Dahl Story Day on Sunday, which would have been his 104th birthday! Some Year 3 pupils wrote their own Revolting Rhymes whilst Year 4 celebrated the eternally popular author by completing a Dahl themed reading activity over the weekend.
