U11A Boys’ House Rugby Matches
45-45 Draw
Player of the match: Sam Hodges
A fantastic game of touch between two very evenly matched teams ended in a draw thanks to a last minute try by St George’s. St George’s started the stronger with Jai Lewis, Harry Forty and Seb Stendall all making strong runs and scoring some great tries. However St Philip’s came back strongly thanks to greater teamwork and excellent support play led by Sam Hodges and Sam Tan. As the game progressed and the pressure built it looked like St Philip’s were going to claim a famous victory but for the last second try which meant a draw was probably a fair reflection of the whole game.

U11B Boys’ House Rugby Matches
St Philip’s 30 – 15 St George’s
Player of the match: George Qin
The score line does not reflect how close this game really was. The U11s really demonstrated how far they have progressed in terms of understanding of the game and ability. Despite the lack of contact, the game has flourished in other areas. Support play was the difference between the two teams. St Philip’s scored two exceptional tries which ran the length of the pitch because every ball carrier had a support player running with them. George Qin has been selected as player of the match for this reason. This was a great game to referee and I’m looking forward to the next encounter to see if St George’s can seek revenge!

U11 Girls’ A House Hockey Matches
St Margaret’s 4-1 St Monica’s
Players of the match: P Griffin, S Hulait
With their respective coloured House tops on it was plain to see whilst we are one school we do have a competitive House system! St Margaret’s completely dominated the first half of the match and nothing seemed to be able to stop Imogen B when on the ball as she gracefully went past the opposition to score her powerful goals. St Monica’s needed to believe in themselves and in the second half they closed the ball down and defended hard to release Zuva. Her speed devastated the Margaret’s defence and the ball was in the back of the goal. Whilst St Monica’s created many more opportunities unfortunately it just was not their day and they eagerly await the replay at the end of this term.

U11B Girls’ House Hockey Matches
St Margaret’s 3 -1 St Monica’s
Player of the match: Imogen Mudie
In a close House Hockey match it was the clinical goalscoring that made the difference in a very evenly matched game between both teams. In the first half both teams cancelled each other out with good defensive performances meaning both attacking teams were given little chances as they had very little time and space to create goal scoring opportunities. In the second half St Margaret’s came quickly out the blocks with two smart finishes meaning they went into a two goal lead. St Monica’s immediately responded with a good goal following some good passing and moving transferring the ball from defence into attack. St Margaret’s sealed the win with another clinical finish in a close game that showed improved dribbling, passing and spatial awareness skills as the game progressed.

St Margaret’s 2 -1 St Monica’s
Player of the match: Charlie Serban
The girls were excited and raring to go! In truth the game was end to end for the majority, and the result could have gone either way. Both teams showing some nice passages of play, where they used the space, but then there were times when they all chased the same ball. Speed and strength of pass was the girls’ weakness as a whole but as the game went on and their confidence grew so did their ability to play more tactical Hockey. Well done though girls you showed great teamwork and determination.

St Philip’s 30 – 35 St George’s
Player of the match: Ethan Graves
It was great to see the drive, passion and determination again that only house matches can bring! The U10s produced a fast dynamic game of touch Rugby which was played in the correct spirit. What was pleasing to see was the support play and passing before contact which has been a focus in performance squad made a big difference within the game. George’s made a great start, getting the ball into space by passing the ball down the line and forward running. George’s looked organised in both attack and defence. However Philip’s responded positively, especially captain Ethan Graves with terrific support play which meant the attack would make 20/30m at time with successful offload after offload. The game was end to end however St George’s proved themselves as the slightly stronger team and deserved the win.

U10B Boys’ House Rugby Matches
St Philip’s 30 – 5 St George’s
Player of the match: Samuel Lawton
In the first House Rugby match of the year St Philip’s came out as winners against a hardworking St George’s side who showed an excellent attitude and determination in the game. St Philip’s showed some great initiative early on in the game intercepting passes and then some strong forward running enabled three tries scored early on in the game. Despite that St George’s showed an excellent workrate which was rewarded with an excellent try scored due to some superb forward running by Harry. The end score was confirmed with some more tries scored by St Philip’s with Sam showing some agile footwork and direct running. An fantastic game with brilliant workrate and commitment shown by both teams.

U10A Girls’ House Hockey Matches
St Margaret’s 3-0 St Monica’s
Scorers: Anusha Singh (3)
Players of the Match: Liang Zi Zhao, Beatrice Salvi
As a year group these girls display a considerable talent for hockey and each of the girls’ houses have equal players which both compliment and also eliminate each other. However, individual talent prevailed for the first goal to be scored as Anusha drived forwards outwitting her opponents to score an amazing individual goal to break the balance. Beatrice and Yixian made some great defensive challenges but the distribution of the ball kept going St Margaret’s way and with Rosa looking solid at the back; it seemed that nothing St Monica’s did could break through to bring them even. Superb match play with Li, Avni and Nush brought on two more goals for St Margaret’s. St Monica’s came close with Lois and Susie coming close but again some fabulous defending kept the ball out. I can’t wait to see the replay at the end of term as these girls are growing in skill and confidence each week.

U10B Girls’ House Hockey Matches
St Monica’s 2-0 St Margaret’s
Player of the match: Tia Sharma, Yashna Maghizh
Scorers: Ramneek Chatha, Tia Sharma
Both teams looked ready for the first House hockey match of the year with each team tactically placing teammates in strong positions to gain victory. The ball moved fast from end to end with Ramneek making some great defensive clearances away from goal. It was great to see the girls using their reverse stick and doing their best to go around the opposition. At times they would have benefitted from spreading out as the excitement of being on the ball meant positional play went wanting. Overall St Monica’s took their chances well with two good goals being scored. With more focus on team play in lessons i feel the girls will benefit for their next House fixture.

U9A Boys’ House Rugby Matches
St Philip’s 50 – 40 St George’s
Player of the match: Sam Sapey
This was an exciting contest for the first house Rugby match of the year with a very close finish between two very competitive teams. In the first quarter St Philip’s got straight into the game with some direct forward running and good support play allowing them to lead 15-5 after the first quarter with some great running from Sam. Despite that an excellent try from Ahryan kept St George’s in the game scoring right in the corner maintaining his position on the wing. The second quarter was played in a similar fashion with some direct running with the ball from St Philip’s resulting in tries being scored and St George’s managing to keep in the game with some last ditch defending. The third quarter resulted in a great comeback from St George’s scoring three tries in a quarter due to some great support play and forward running from Hugo, Arush, and Aaron meaning going into the last quarter St Philip’s were leading by two tries. The last quarter some clever tactics from St Philip’s with the scrum half slowing the game down and using the time wisely despite St George’s trying some last ditch attacks to get back into the game resulted in a 50-40 victory to St Philip’s in a pulsating game of Rugby.

A strong St George’s side put St Phillip’s to the sword with a complete display of open running rugby. Rohan Sharu and William Nicolson both put in fantastic displays with Rohan’s speed causing the St Philip’s defence all sorts of problems and William running excellent support lines. Arjun Dev worked hard for St Philip’s showing great perseverance and effort throughout the whole game.

U9C Boys’ House Rugby Matches
St Philip’s 35 – 30 St George’s
Player of the match: Kabir Tajuria
The clash between Red and Green always adds an additional incentive within the Rugby House matches. The boys were so enthusiastic and cheering each other on they had no idea I was trying to get the game started! Both teams built up the courage to run with the ball however struggled to find space to run into as a brick wall of defence swarmed every ball carrier. That was until Kabir Tajuria led the way running aggressively into space with the ball in hand. The boys have clearly showed progress this year as the game ran smoothly with everyone showing an understanding of where they needed to be at all times. Going forward, we need to support each other with the ball and try to identify where the space is on the pitch.

This game was fast and furious! The girls played with grit and determination, which made it very competitive. There was some brilliant passages of play, resulting in some fantastic teams goals, particularly from St Margaret’s. The girls really encouraged each other and worked hard as a team. It was a tight game until the last few minutes, where St Margaret’s pulled away and steamed ahead, finishing 4-2. Well done to each and every one of the girls. It was exciting to watch them play some competitive Hockey again!

U8A Boys’ House Rugby Matches
St Philip’s 110 – 90 St George’s
Player of the Match: James Barwell
In a closely contested match it was St Philip’s victorious in the first House Rugby competition of the year, this was indebted to their fast start out the blocks that always gave them the lead in the game. In the first quarter St Philip’s started with some strong, quick, and direct running which resulted in several tries being scored by Rayyan, Umar, and Rayan. St George’s then, determined as ever, started to reply to those early setbacks with some excellent passing Rugby being played and the outcome was tries scored by Jasper, Loic, and James. This continued throughout the game with both teams showing wonderful support play allowing themselves to get into great positions to get over the line. Going into the last quarter St Philip’s still held the lead and scored a crucial try early in the last quarter to give themselves the victory. St George’s should hold their spirits very high showing great commitment to respond to conceding early tries to respond so well to early setbacks.

St George’s 60-45
Players of the Match: Lucas Gurney and Carlino Kumar
A closely fought encounter went the way of St George’s thanks to some great forward running and support play. Notably Finn Burrell, Idris Douis and Lucas Gurney all showed good understanding by following the person with the ball. Carlino Kumar demonstrated excellent evasion skills along with Arjun Najran scoring a number of tries. For St Philip’s Lucien Lau and Jayden Gupta show good understanding of supporting the player with the ball. A fantastic effort from all involved.

St Philip’s 50 – 45 St George’s
Player of the match: Siyuan Le
An end to end try fest as St George’s and St Philip’s battle it out on the Rugby pitch once again! The joys of the house match is that it shows the progress the boys have made over the last six weeks in a competitive setting. Every pupil was determined to get to the elusive white line and place the ball down. Some took the more direct route, running straight and somehow avoided getting tagged, some however managed to touch every blade of grass on the pitch before scoring! Either way, everyone showed determination and persistence in trying to score for their team. A special mention goes to man of the match Siyuan Le for his elusive running, quick passing and excellent support play! A great game no matter the result as everyone left the pitch with great big smiles with the prospect of eating some freshly baked flapjacks.

Excited, yet nervous to play. The girls showed signs of playing good hockey. St Margaret’s ability to confidently dribble the ball to shoot set them above St Monica’s, who were unable to defend the ball quick enough to stop the goals. Both teams need to work on there spacing and ability to work as a team, but the more they play I’m sure this will improve. Well done girls!

The score doesn’t reflect how well both teams played. St Margaret’s lacked the ability to finish and successfully score although, they probably had as many attempts. A game where lots of the play was fast and furious, the girls would benefit from slowing down a little and spending some time on the ball, dribbling it away from the defenders. Finishing result was a Margaret’s win. Well done to both teams.

Player of the match: Amadora Ramos-Lui
In a pulsating game between the battle of blue and yellow both teams were deadlocked in a game that displayed great commitment by both defence and attack. Both teams started cautiously adapting to the conditions of the game. However, some great attacking skills from Amadora led to goalscoring opportunities being created by St Margaret’s in which there were a couple of clinical finishes. In reply St Monica’s showed great resilience and determination to fightback and even the game up. In the end the draw was a fair reflection of the great battle between blue and yellow.
