This week Year 6 developed their understanding of some of the issues facing the world through a study of the text ‘If the World Were a Village’. The children were challenged to represent information from the text graphically. They studied some of the problems facing survivors following natural disasters and discussed some of the ways in which engineers can help. They then applied a variety of skills to determine how many people might be offered emergency shelter in the Sports Hall following a serious flood and thought about what things they would pack and take from their house if they had only 5 minutes. Finally, they constructed model shelters and investigated features including size, design and material.
