On Saturday the 6th February, 54 chess players from The Blue Coat School played in the inaugural Blue Coat Arena Chess Tournament on lichess.org. The tournament clock was set at 2 hours, with games being played at a time control of 10 minutes per player, per game. A win scored 2 points, a draw 1, and a loss zero, and players had the chance to earn double points by putting together winning streaks.
The winner, with a very impressive 52 points, was Jai Lewis. In second place was Samuel Hodges with 39, and in third place was Kabir Tajuria with 32. Mention must also go to Kevin Ge, close behind with 30 points, who won a tense game against Jai, and was undefeated in 10 games. Lana Saha and Kunal Tajuria in Year 2 each won two good games, and Kingsley Chen put together a good streak of four wins in a row in the middle of the tournament, even having a chance to win his game against the winner of the tournament, had he spotted a crucial pin.
Well done to everyone who played, I enjoyed seeing everyone battling it out, and look forward to the next one!
