Early Years have had lots of fun celebrating Chinese New Year. Nursery watched a short video to introduce the day and the children enjoyed completing various themed craft activities such as making Chinese hats and lanterns. Classrooms had rice, noodle and glitter trays for the children to explore, to promote sensory play and discussion. It was lovely to see everyone dressed in the traditional colours of red and yellow to celebrate in true Chinese style. To end the day everyone took home a fortune cookie kindly donated by Mr Luk. Nursery had lots of fun and really enjoyed the day.

In Reception the children enjoyed making their own drums and playing along to a Chinese New Year song. The children listened to a story about where the names of the animals for each year originated from and then wrote a few sentences retelling this story. We found out that this year is the Year of the Ox. To celebrate we made ox’s. The children also created Chinese New Year cards, paper chain dragons and money wallets.

We wish everyone ‘Kung Hei Fat Choi!”
