We were excited to welcome back all of Reception and had a very exciting topic for our first week back together. We have been learning all about dinosaurs. The children listened to the story ‘Tyrannosaurus Rex’ by Julia Donaldson. They then had to use their imagination and write what they think the different dinosaurs might have been saying to one another. The Reception children produced some great work. We also learnt some fascinating facts about dinosaurs and the children then attempted to write their own riddles for one another to solve. To finish the week off, Reception had a busy dinosaur themed day. Lots of activities took place including a PE wow morning, a dinosaur hunt and the children participating in free choice activities linked to dinosaurs. What a roarsome day!
Well done, Reception! Next week our topic will be dragons. Do you know any stories that feature a dragon?
The children and teachers in Year 1 returned to school with big smiles on their faces and a spring in their step! They were delighted to see their friends and have embraced all the curriculum opportunities presented to them this week.
The highlights of the week have included conducting an experiment as part of British Science Week and working together in PSHE. In science, they looked at different kinds of plastic. They investigated and discussed the impact that discarded plastic has on the environment and designed posters encouraging reducing, reusing and recycling. As part of their PSHE lesson, the children enjoyed working towards a shared goal with a partner, exercising compromise and teamwork.
We are so proud of how well the children have adapted and the resilience they have demonstrated. Well done Year 1!
The Year 2 children have had a very happy return to school. Delighted to see their friends after so long, there have been lots of smiling faces and excited conversations. We have thought about all the people who helped us during lockdown and sent them thank you cards. We have also been thinking particularly about our mummies, making cards and writing poems, ready to celebrate Mothering Sunday this weekend.
