Reception classes have enjoyed lots of outdoor learning already this term. RP played hide and seek in the playground to practise working out subtraction facts: “There were 10 children standing on the bridge, now there is only 1… How many have gone to hide?” The children also jumped along an ‘invisible number line’ to practise counting back.
To link with the story What the Ladybird Heard, all the Reception classes went out on minibeast hunts in the school garden this week. We took clipboards and magnifying glasses, and talked about the creatures we found and the habitats they choose to live in.
Reception children have also been busy in the Forest School. Each class now has their own ‘planet’ in the forest, and this week everyone made a clay alien; adding feathers, twigs and other natural materials to create their characters.
