This week we marked 299 years since our school’s foundation was laid, with our annual Founders’ Day service. For years we have celebrated this moment in St Philip’s Cathedral- the original site of the school- but this year due to Covid we gathered with year 6 in Chapel, fully donned in their Best Blue, and live-streamed the service to the rest of the school.

Year 6 led with confidence and clarity. They enacted the story of how the school came about, honouring our Founder Revd William Higgs and his team, who had the vision to build a charity school to serve the poorest children in our city. The Chapel Choir sang for the first time in nearly 18 months! It was wonderful to hear live singing in Chapel again. The Year 6 Chamber group also brought their musical gifts into the service, playing ‘Tritsch Tratsch Polka’ by Johann Strauss. Mr Neeson read to us Jesus’s story of the wise and foolish builders, and Chaplain challenged us to build our lives for the sake of others.

Behind the scenes, as always, staff went over and above to make the livestream happen! Special thanks go to Mr Hill, Mr Nicklin, Mr Isherwood, Mrs Lynn, Miss Akehurst, Miss Levett and Mr Finglas for all they did to make it happen. Another great team effort at BCS!
