On Wednesday 13 October our Music Scholars visited Wells Cathedral School. At the kind invitation of the Music Department, we were delighted to attend the Wells CS Symphony Orchestra Schools’ Concert, ‘Lights, Camera, Action!’. The programme of famous TV and movie themes was hugely enjoyable, made all the more special by the extraordinary playing of the Symphony Orchestra – what a talent!
After lunch, we were treated to a guided tour of the magnificent thirteenth-century cathedral, which sits in the heart of this delightful little city, observing the world’s second-oldest astronomical clock still operating some 700 years after it was built.
An exciting singing workshop brought the day to a fitting finale before the long journey home. The scholars were excited but tired after a very busy day.
The children were a credit to the School, asking thoughtful questions and behaving impeccably. I’m sure this will not be our last visit to Wells; who knows, some of our scholars might well become pupils at this prestigious Music Specialist school in the very near future.
Thanks to Miss Akehurst and Mr Newman for their assistance, support and company on our visit.
