In Reception, we have used the Christmas Story as our literacy focus this half term. The children familiarised themselves with the story using Talk for Writing. They learnt the story by saying it out loud as a class whilst performing lots of simple actions. After this, they were given the opportunity to draw their own simple story map showing the main characters from the story. Finally, they retold the story using simple sentences about the characters, the setting, the story problem and the happy ending. This was a great way to enhance the children’s interest and understanding of the story before they began to practise performing the story ready for our Nativity Play. The children have worked very hard to learn the traditional songs, rehearse their lines and act out each scene. We hope you enjoyed the show!
