Love in action – our Christmas carol services
‘God’s Great Advent Calendar’ was the theme for this year’s Lower School Advent service, held on Monday. Year 3 led the readings with great confidence, highlighting the fact that God had been planning to send Jesus into the world for a long time. We heard about the way God spoke to the prophets and the angels years before the birth of Jesus. Year 4 read a selection of Christmas poems, and it was wonderful to hear the Year 3 and 4 choirs singing again. Chaplain lit the 5 candles of the Advent Wreath throughout the service, and explained their meaning.
For the Upper School, it was with great sadness that our normal evening carol service with parents could no longer go ahead, but we still enjoyed a beautiful service in school on Thursday morning, which was filmed for families to watch later. Sung worship was led by the Chapel Choir, who performed a stunning repertoire of songs, with numerous solos. Year 6 brought the story of Christmas to life with their dramatic readings, while Senior Choir performed a brand new Christmas song by Chaplain.
Across both services, Chaplain wrapped up the theme for this term: Love in Action, drawing out the birth of Jesus as God’s greatest act of love. She challenged us to all continue to put love into action in our homes as the Christmas holidays begin.
A huge thank you to everyone involved in putting these services together, and a special mention to Miss Akehurst, Mr Isherwood, Mr Nicklin, Mrs Creaton, Miss Levett, Mr Hill, Mr Newman, Mr Neeson and Mr Finglas for the key roles they played across the services.
