The Matty Thacker Football Tournament (A)
Wednesday 19 January U11A Football
Result: Cup Winners
Player of the Match: Jonty Scurlock
The U11s travelled to Winterfold to take part in the Matty Thacker Trophy. The Tournament is named after Matty, a Year 6 Winterfold pupil who tragically lost his life in 2007 road accident. Considering the lack of football played so far, the boys acquitted themselves tremendously narrowly missing out on qualification to the Shield Final but managing to win the Cup for teams that placed 3rd and 4th in their groups.
BCS were placed in a very strong group including Wolverhampton Grammar Junior School and West House. In the group we managed 2 wins, 3 draws and 1 defeat which meant we placed 3rd. We were guilty of missing far too many good chances and this came back to bite us especially in our defeat to WGJS, when their centre forward hit a speculative shot that crept inside the post. Hopefully now though we can focus on football in preparation for ISFA in early March, where if these boys find their shooting boots, we should do very well.
There is a huge amount of talent in this team they just need to toughen up a bit and add that bit of bite that all good sports teams have whilst at the same time remembering their BCS values both towards each other and the opposition.
