Tuesday 8 February IAPS Regional Swimming Qualifying Round

On Tuesday we welcomed Westonbirt, King’s Hawford, Warwick Junior School and Warwick Preparatory School to Blue Coat for the IAPS 2022 Swimming Qualifiers.

Swimmers from each school competed in a series of heats including both individual and relay races. As the schools arrived, Mr Neeson welcomed competitors, wishing them luck for the day’s event. Following each team’s warm up, the event kicked off with the relays. Our U10 and U11 boys and girls teams posted some fantastic times and personal bests as they raced through the water in both the medley and freestyle heats. The Under 11 Boys narrowly missed the school record for the 4 x 25m freestyle relay by 1.2 seconds despite setting a new personal best by 2 seconds for the team!

As the session moved onto the individual races, the U10 swimmers worked through their strokes which commenced with the 25m backstroke. Aaria Ratti set a new personal best in the 25m backstroke winning her heat for the girls U10s. Vivek Ratti opened the U11 heats with an incredible swim in the U11 50m Butterfly setting a new school record by over 1 second. Followed quickly by Remy Granger and Anusha Singh who achieved personal best times in their 50m backstroke events, with Remy also breaking a school record by 0.6 of a second.

As the heats drew to a close, our swimmers now await a nervous few weeks as the final qualifiers take place across the country. All results will be submitted to IAPS who will then confirm finalists in April. Swimmers selected for the national finals will race at the London Olympic Aquatic Centre in June.

Well done to all swimmers selected to represent BCS on Tuesday, you have done yourselves and the School incredibly proud. Thank you also to the BCS Sports Staff  and Estates for helping to host the day.
