On Wednesday morning, Year 4 completed a Fieldwork activity along Harborne High Street. The children walked along the High Street looking at the types of buildings and their uses. They used a base map to annotate if a building was, for example, a shop, restaurant or perhaps empty.
Once the fieldwork was completed, we went back to the classroom to consider our findings and looked at what the most common building was and how and why the High Street has changed over time. Despite the weather, the children behaved impeccably and enjoyed the trip, one commenting, “I didn’t realise that was there!” This shows that despite it being our local High Street you can find more about your local area than you might expect in a fieldwork activity.
