Year 1 had an exciting start to the week, with a curriculum enrichment day focusing on ‘Old Toys’. The children developed their understanding of how toys have changed over time. They were surprised to learn that some of the popular toys that are still played with today, have been around for a very long time. They thought about how some of these toys have evolved including the materials that have been used to create them. They also discovered that the teddy bear was named after the American president, Teddy Roosevelt.
Each child was given a bag of craft resources and they had to carefully follow instructions to make their very own toys. They made a moving parts teddy bear, a magnetic fishing game, a spinning top, a football game, a thaumatrope and a peg doll. The children were most creative with their designs and personalised their toys by decorating them beautifully. A fun day was had by all!
