How appropriate was it that, in a week when we are welcoming this country’s finest ever heptathlete and gold medalist to share our 300 Year celebrations, our athletes should shine so brightly.
Monday got off to a great start with BCS having no fewer than four representatives at the IAPS National Athletics finals at Nuneaton. There were great performances from Anna, Sophie, Remy, Jack and James, who all completed brilliantly. Credit to Anna and Sophie who were racing at U12 level. Remy came fifth in the long jump, Jack a creditable fourth in the 200 metres, and James third in the 1500 metres. Athletics at BCS is really going from strength to strength. Denise Lewis would be proud of you all, I’m sure!
After the success of Bugsy Malone production, year 6 had some hard-earned ‘down time’ at an Aztec Day. They enjoyed canoeing, swimming and raft building. It was a great day and the children loved making memories in their last few days of their time at BCS.
Tuesday saw the whole school Moving Up Day. This is a chance for current and new pupils to meet new staff and create new friendships. I enjoyed delivering a whole Prep School assembly on the theme of change. I also had the pleasure of meeting the Pre-Prep children in their new classes. So, a big thank you to all, especially the staff for making this day so informative and pleasurable for all.
Our chess players enjoyed another successful day at the National Chess tournament. The children did amazingly well with some excellent wins. In this challenging tournament, Team BCS came a very worthy seventh. This puts BCS at the top table of cricket. Well done to all the children and staff involved in this remarkable achievement.
In the wake of England’s remarkable Test triumph, Thursday saw BCS head off to take part in the National Cricket finals at Oakham School. The boys did terrifically well and played some wonderful cricket showing determination and great sportsmanship. Overall they finished seventh overall. Well done all.
Tonight we head into our 300 party weekend with our Gala concert. It promises to be a night to remember with an evening of wonderful music. I’m sure it will live on in the memory for years to come. Look out for a spectacular finale at around 10.20 this evening.
Happy weekend to all!
