Year 10A Rugby House Match
This match demonstrated how far the pupils have progressed from rugby individuals to a rugby squad. The depth of talent and understanding makes next year’s season a promising adventure. Both teams showed aggression in their running with the ball and within defence. Teams ran with support and looked to pass before contact to utilise the space effectively. The last try of the match scored by St George’s truly represented this – a real team try. Although St Philips’ trailed for most of the game, I wanted to see if the pupils had grit, passion, determination to keep going – BCS values. It is always easy to display these attributes when things are going your way. St Philip’s persevered and continued to challenge St George’s throughout the whole game, competing well at the break down and at times turning the ball over. Overall, this was a great way to end the season which has seen all pupils making great progress in terms of understanding and ability.
U10 & U11 Swimming Gala v King’s Hawford
BCS performance swimmers welcomed King’s Hawford to a swimming gala this evening. There was a good turnout of spectators and an overall cheerful atmosphere before, during, and after the races which were mainly dominated by our talent swimmers. The Medley Relay events started the evening off which saw more fantastic takeovers, which have been worked on in the morning training sessions, and some speedy individual performances. Hugo swam a rapid 15.8 seconds for 25m Freestyle in one of the relays tonight, leading BCS to one of many first placed swims. Amadora was again a strong and reliable force in multiple strokes, even taking part in the U11’s 50m Backstroke event to claim a respectable 2nd place. Brilliant work from all our swimmers and coaches; let’s go BCS!
U9A House Rugby Match
A competitive House Rugby game for the U9’s played in an excellent spirit by both teams with St George’s coming out as the winners. The George’s team were physical from the start able to make some big tackles especially from Roman, Tom, and Arin but at the same time played some great free-flowing passing rugby with Zayaan, Jovan, and Arya-Veer timing their passes to perfection for their teammates to score tries. Despite George’s dominating the game, St Phillips should be really proud of their efforts as they never gave up and tried their best to prevent St George’s from scoring tries with James, Joshua, and Samuel brave in the tackle and Emmanuel, Reuben, and Raj always looking to drive their team up the pitch towards the try line. An excellent Rugby season comes to a halt with the final game showing the progress the U9’s have made. Next season an extra element comes into the game with the ruck and maul introduced so learning the technique and importance of those two parts of the game.
U9B House Rugby Match
This was a great way to end what has been a very successful season regarding progression of individual skill and understanding. The final score line was a fitting tribute to how close the two teams were throughout the whole game. It has been a pleasure to watch these pupils grow in confidence within rugby fixtures over the last 12 weeks. As a result we saw more forward running with the ball, better contact and tackling and finally more effective support play.
U8 & U9 Swimming Gala v Solihull Prep
BCS performance swimmers welcomed Solihull Prep to a swimming gala this evening. There was a good turnout of spectators and an overall cheerful atmosphere before, during, and after the races which were mainly dominated by our talented swimmers. The Medley Relay events started the evening off which saw more fantastic take-overs, which have been worked on in the morning training sessions, and some speedy individual performances. Roman was amongst many children who had to swim multiple additional races due to a spout of illness in the squad. The whole team pulled together and continued their great run of form in galas this term. Brilliant work from all our swimmers and coaches; let’s go BCS!
U9C House Rugby Match
A festive feast of BCS values was on display in the C team House as St George’s and St Phillip’s went toe to toe. In a game that demonstrated how far these boys have progressed the commitment and perseverance was exceptional. Raymond was “on song” for St Phillip’s showing lightning speed and great tenacity in the tackle whilst Kieran was equally as committed and effective in the tackle. It was also great to see Aiden and Esa both showing amazing progress throughout the term and demonstrating the rugby basics of going forward and support. Jack demonstrated great power with the ball and Connor made some good passes as everyone got involved with Chris and Adam showing great acceleration. All in all a great game, well done all.
U10B House Rugby Match
This was a game which was played in a wonderful spirit with all players getting involved and demonstrating the progress they have made. For St Phillip’s, Jerry was the star of the show bulldozing his way to the try line on numerous occasions, whilst for St George’s the speed and agility of Finn, Lucas and Judah made the difference with runs through the St Phillip’s defence. All in all a great game played in a great spirit well done all.
