U10 Netball v Warwick

This Thursday was an exciting afternoon for all Year 5 girls. With the afternoon off-timetable and 8 netball teams, the girls ventured over to Warwick. The afternoon allowed for all pupils to demonstrate the netball skills they have been developing over the last term. Having 8 teams gave 8 girls the opportunity to captain a game – which they did superbly. Each team showed great organisation when it came to rotating positions and led productive teams talks to boost morale and improve their play. It was a pleasure to watch everyone play and work together so well!

Result: BCS 2-1 The Croft

U11A&B Warwick Tournament

This Wednesday, the U11A&B team were lucky enough to be entered into a mini tournament against Bablake, The Croft and Warwick. Off the back of IAPS the week before, the A team were particularly excited to play The Croft again and definitely wanted to show that they deserved a place alongside them in the finals! Both A&B teams played vey good netball from start to finish this afternoon, with a number of girls playing their best netball yet! The B team won two games (Bablake and Warwick) and lost one (The Croft). The B team showed excellent determination as these wins were against strong opposition and they really had to work really hard for these wins! The Game against the Croft was a fast and furious game, but BSC were unfortunately outplayed in this instance.

The A team had a very successful afternoon, managing to win all three games. Their biggest victory was the win against The Croft. This was a very exciting game to watch and a special win for the girls. I think both sides were a little nervous for this match. Watching the game, both teams made a number of unforced errors, but BCS played with more fight and tenacity on and off the ball. Playing with a point to prove, and quite rightly so. After the first few minutes BCS girls took the lead. This unsettled The Croft and BCS girls were able to hold onto the lead up until the final whistle. It was a close game but ended 7-5 to BCS. Well done to all the girls, you have developed into fantastic netball players and I’m excited for the rest of the season with plenty more fixtures and tournaments ahead.

Result: BCS 1-1 The Croft

U10A Football v The Croft

The U10 A Football team travelled to The Croft for their final football fixture of this half term. On a bobbly and small pitch, passing and moving the ball was going to be hard work, with their control and spacial awareness tested. The team started excellently playing the ball calmly out from the back and making the small pitch as big as possible, with Rayan being the orchestrator of this from defence. Despite this, the team (apart from Rayan B) did not get any shots off at the opposition goalkeeper.

BCS then took a deserved lead when a corner from Freddie was immaculately finished on the half volley from Noah into the bottom corner. Despite controlling the game, the BCS defence had to be alert with the combination of Rayan and Jasper keeping the opposition out and then some excellent saves from Jasper in goal. The Croft equalised just on half time, when a failed clearance from a corner meant the opposition player dribbled through towards goal and then finished in the bottom corner. The second half bought much of the same, with BCS dominating possession and territory but without the opposition goalkeeper getting tested and the BCS Goalkeeper had to be alert, with Rayan B making a couple of excellent saves. The winning goal came when a shot from Freddie and tipped onto the post and then the predator like Noah followed in for the rebound to put into the goal for the victory. A solid performance on a tricky pitch with a huge amount of possession but the opposition goalkeeper not regularly tested by shots. Players of the Match were Jasper and Rayan B for both making some excellent saves in goal but also when both in defence showing good organisation.

Result: BCS 2-1 The Croft

U10 B&C Football v The Croft

Both games were challenging and could had gone either way at any point. However, it is great to see basic positioning and tactics starting to be implemented in our Football. As a result, we often had an “exit plan” to relieve pressure when in our own half. Both teams looked to go forward with the ball and apply pressure to the defenders when we didn’t. Two great results against two good teams today.

Result:

  • B: BCS 1-1 The Croft
  • C: BCS 2-1 The Croft

U10A&B v King’s Hawford

This Monday the U10 girls played Kings Hawford for their third fixture of the term. Another fantastic afternoon of netball, the girls won both games very convincingly. Playing Bee netball allows players to develop an all-rounded skill set and I’m seeing more and more girls demonstrate natural attacking and defending skills as a result. We still need to work on our positional awareness, this was more evident in the A team. We tend to play 100 miles an hour, we lack vision and thought process. To develop further as netball players, they need to work more effectively as a team rather than a individual. These are high expectations, but I’m sure the girls can rise to the challenge. Keep up the hard work girls.

Result: Won both games

U9A Football v The Croft

The U9’s played a competitive game against the Croft where they were unfortunate to come out on the losing side. The fact they did lose as mainly down to a magnificent performance in goal by The Croft keeper. In general the boys played the better football and moved the ball well with Kavidh distributing the ball well. Tom was excellent up and down the right wing and Samson showed strength and power. As a team though they need to be more decisive with the ball and quicker with their decision making in front of goal. In defence a times we got caught ball-watching, but there was very little between the teams and in every metric bar goals I felt we were the stronger team so overall a good performance.

Result: BCS 1-2 The Croft

U10B Football v The Croft

The U10 B team hosted The Croft on a sunny Tuesday afternoon. After a wait for the visitors some tactical work paid off with BCS dominating possession and playing some lovely passing football throughout the game. The goal came from this when a fantastic pass from Jovan out to the right wing enabled Ibrahim to dribble and then put a cross into the penalty box for George to score with panache finishing under the goalkeeper to take the lead. BCS continued to pass the ball around well with Ibrahim and Jovan being the source of these key passes. Into the second much of the same however, The Croft goalkeeper was not tested. The opposition did equalize with a well taken goal and a lapse of concentration from the defence and then the game petered out into a draw. BCS played some intricate football but have to remember when they do not have possession of the ball they need to get into position and work hard to win the ball back.

Result: BCS 1-1 The Croft

U10C Football v The Croft

The U10C Football team hosted The Croft and were clinical in front of goal to record a victory. The team worked exceptionally hard trying to win possession of the ball back and transfer the ball forwards quickly so they could create goal-scoring chances. This was shown with goals shared throughout the team. An excellent performance and a great way to finish before half term to show the progression and improvements made by the team.

Result: BCS Won

U9 A&B Netball v King’s Hawford

This Tuesday the U9 Girls played Kings Hawford. The sun was shining and both teams were excited to play some netball. With both teams winning the first centre pass we were off to a good start. The captains for the day were Freya White and Hannah Chipwete. Both teams demonstrated some superb netball with players driving into space and performing lovely changes of direction the team were able to move the ball down court with ease. The girls worked together brilliantly in the shooting circle- passing out to get closer to the post, using split lands to gain distance and playing short sharp passes in the D. In defence, both teams were tight on their players leading to interceptions and swift turnovers. Well done to all girls who played, keep up the good work.

Result: Both: BCS 11-3 King’s Hawford

U8A-C Netball v King’s Hawford

This Wednesday, 15 of the year 3 girls made the journey to King’s Hawford for a fun afternoon of netball related games. With very excited children the girls were eager to warm up and start passing and moving as soon as we arrived. We played two adapted versions of the game, essentially ‘end ball’ followed on by 7v7 with no positions. The girls demonstrated good teamwork. In addition, they tried really hard with their footwork and passing. I was really impressed with all of them and showed how much progress they have made in such a short space of time. This was a super opportunity to practice their netball skills in a competitive environment. Well done girls, keep up the hard work.

Result: No scores recorded

U11D Netball v Winterfold

The girls came flying out of the blocks in Wednesday’s fixture v Winterfold. Excellent defensive work meant that BCS had the majority of possession in the opening phase of the match and Mei-Li’s shooting skills shone with three quick goals. Ritika, Eliza and Lauren continued to work hard in the defensive third as Winterfold tried to come back into the game but a strong 3-1 lead was taken into half time. A few positional changes didn’t impact on the quality of the BCS netball and Neve, Aashni and Aditi continued to show excellent movement throughout the second half. The game ended with a 4-2 BCS win – well done girls!

Result:  BCS 4-2 Winterfold

U11E Netball v Winterfold

The boys played fantastically in their two games on Wednesday afternoon, dominating both games in terms of possession and chances. In our first game, against Kings Hawford, Blue Coat took the lead in the first half, through a really well taken goal by Xander. Unfortunately, despite a number of good opportunities, the game finished 1-1 after a few moments of lapses in concentration. However, there wasn’t any time for heads to drop as Monmouth were up next, with another game straight away. The boys recognised, after the first game, the need for more passing and communication, and this is something they really worked on. There were some fantastic passages of play and they worked brilliantly together as a team, leading to a well fought 2-1 victory. A special mention must go to Ishaan and William for their fantastic defensive displays, but all of the team should be incredibly proud of their performance and more importantly, their attitude – they represented BCS excelently!

Result: Winterfold 1-1 BCS

U11A v King’s Hawford & Monmouth

The U11’s played fantastically to win both their games. They moved the ball with great fluidity on a undulating pitch which was a credit to them. There were strong performances all over the pitch with Leon showing great energy on the right and Dan scoring a couple of goals which were great reward for his tireless workrate. Aryaan scored a screamer and the winner against Monmouth but it was the performance of Fotois that stood out showing great composure at the back Overall a very good afternoon where the boys’ attitude was superb and they thoroughly deserved the victories, well done.

Result: 2 wins

U11C v Winterfold

This Wednesday three U11 teams made the journey to the beautiful school, Winterfold, for an afternoon of netball. We played the 7 aside game today, which the girls were all very excited about. We arrived in time for a ‘team talk’ and really good warm up, so by the time the first whistle blew we were ready and raring to go! The girls played well. I haven’t seen them play for a couple of weeks, but they demonstrated superb progress. They showed a sound understanding of the game and demonstrated their ability to create space and drive forward for the ball! However, Winterfold had some fast players and their passing was equally as sharp. They managed to work the ball through the team very clinically, specifically in their attacking third, this gave them many more opportunities to shoot and score. BCS girls found this tricky to defend however continued to preserve all the way through the game. At half time the score was 7-1. With a motivating team talk and a few positions switched, we played a lot better and drew in the second half. So well done girls. Unfortunately, Winterfold had done enough hard work in the first half to keep their win.

Result: Winterfold 10-4 BCS

U11C v King’s Hawford & Monmouth

A special mention must go to Ishaan and William for their fantastic defensive displays, but all of the team should be incredibly proud of their performance and more importantly, their attitude – they represented BCS excellently!

Result: 1 win and 1 draw

U11B v King’s Hawford & Monmouth

These were two superb and challenging fixtures in which the score lines could had gone either way. For both games our positional play and game management was discipline and structured which was great to see. In the first game, King Hawford showed a little more determination to get to the ball first which put us under a lot of pressure. However against Monmouth, we were more physical off the ball and more proactive in receiving the ball which made a huge difference. All in all, two very good fixtures.

Result: 1 win and 1 loss

U8 Football v The Croft

A very excited set of Year 3 Footballers travelled to The Croft for their first football fixtures of the term. There were three fixtures with all pupils gaining from the experience of playing a competitive fixture. In the three games there were two wins and one defeat with the positives from all three games is that pupils were determined and trying to win possession back of the ball making some very strong tackles. Areas for development need to be understanding positions on a football pitch and trying to pass the ball at the correct time to their teammates in good positions as the ball when passed accurately and at the right weight of pass can move quicker than a player dribbling. Players of the matches were Reuben, Akash, and Sebastian H all for showing good positional awareness, making determined tackles or scoring some excellent goals for their respective team.

Result: 2 wins and a loss

U10/U11 Swimming Gala v Balsall Common

This was the final opportunity for the U10 and U11 boys and girl swimmers to gain racing experience before IAPS and ESSA. There was only 8 points separating the two teams with Blue Coat coming out on top as the winners for tonight’s gala. Throughout the night there were some extremely close races which could have tipped the points in favour of either team, but after practising finishes, starts and turns this played a big role on securing the vital points in those nail-biting races. Many of our swimmers swam new personal bests last night, swimming faster than they have ever before. Fantastic swimming from all our swimmers and a special mention goes to Aaria Ratti for showcasing her skills throughout her 50m Backstroke while displaying a good backstroke turn and finish. Also, William Almond for his 50m Breaststroke as William has been working extremely hard to improve his breaststroke pull out to gain an advantage on his opposition, which was showcased during his swimming last night. Well done to all who swam, lot’s of fast times and new personal bests.

Result: BCS Win

U11 A&B Netball

This was the U11’s final game of the half term and what a game it was! Both the A and B teams put on an amazing display of netball. The A team demonstrated great discipline whilst playing, brilliant changes of directions and shooting stats close to 100%. Their hard work led to them scoring over 40 goals in a 40 minute game. The B team demonstrated fight to win the ball and determination to score. This game allowed them the opportunity to refine their changes of direction and run onto the ball. Well played to all. Looking forward to seeing you continue your netball after half term.

Result: BCS Win
