U10 Boys Cricket v Warwick

With the prospect of rain and thunderstorms, there was a lot of uncertainty whether the game would go ahead. With only a few drops of rain, the game went ahead unchanged. BCS batted first and looked to put runs on the score sheet. At times, we made the most of the smaller boundaries hitting mainly 4’s. However, when Warwick came into bat, they made the boundary look tiny – hitting 6 after 6. Unfortunately, Warwick were just too strong in the bat, and their aggressive batting accumulated a run rate we couldn’t match. Still, there are plenty of positives and game-based experiences to take away.

Result: Warwick win both games

U11 IAPS Cricket Tournament @ Oundle School

The U11 Cricket team had an early start for the U11 IAPS Cricket tournament at Oundle School on a baking hot day. The were placed in Group D and had three games to see how they progressed for the afternoon. The first game versus The Perse School showed an impressive bowling performance, restricting the opponents to 40 in 7 overs, with Hugo being the pick of the bowlers. After a shaky start again, some impressive striking from Hugo got the team above the required run rate. However, a flurry of a loss of wickets from an impressive opposing bowler meant BCS needed 13 runs with 2 wickets left. This became 1 wicket with 7 to win, but Rohan managed that in 2 balls, striking a 4 and a 3 to win in a close game.

Into the second game against Wellingborough, BCS bowled first and bowled them out for 36, with Tom taking two wickets in an over and Vidur bowling impressively. The team chased this in the third over with Toby having to retire at 25. Into the third fixture versus Cheltenham College, and knowing a win secured a place in a group for all the first place teams in the groups, BCS batted first and scored 58 off their 7 overs. Aditya batted impressively, supported in an excellent partnership with James to set a good total. The bowlers then bowled with accuracy with Will, Vidur and Tom taking very important wickets to ensure the team finished top of their group. Into the afternoon, the team had three more fixtures with the first against Solihull. Fielding first, a sloppy start mixed with some good batting from the opposition meant Solihull scored a total of 60. The team clawed back the runs with good bowling from Rohan, Vidur, and Toby. Needing 9 runs an over this was going to be a difficult task, however Aditya and Toby batted with panache and both retired on 25 with Hugo scoring the final runs in the final over for a great run chase. The next game versus Kimbolton school, the bowlers restricted the opponents to 26 again Vidur bowling impressively. On the run chase the team were 12-1 after 1.3 overs before lightening struck and the tournament was cancelled for the rest of the day. An impressive day, with the team performing excellently and consistently throughout the day in tough conditions. Players should be extremely proud for their efforts throughout the day

Result: Unbeaten all tournament

U10A Boys v Kings’ Hawford

The U10 A’s continued their fine form with a resounding victory against Kings Hawford. Batting first, the boys struck a commanding 96 runs in 15 overs with Jasper, Noah and Dhruv shining with the bat. In reply, the KH batters had no answer to the straight and accurate bowling with Umar being the pick of the bunch. Fielding at times got a little ragged, and this is something which will need to be better against West House next week.

Result: BCS 96-25 KH

U9 Girls V RGS The Grange

After our last convincing win, our team were confident at the start, especially when they got to field first. Our bowling in general is of a high standard and this reflects how well the team has listened in lessons as this is only their second Summer of cricket. With some pupils choosing to run in, we were quite unlucky to bowl only one wicket (Flo) the whole match as we were accurate in our approach. Our fielding got better throughout the innings, and with movement towards the ball this worked really well for Hannah as she ran onto the ball and threw it quickly back to the bowler and Kara took the wicket. When batting, initially we waited for the ball to roll in but after a quick adjustment of feet we were off with Sonam, Lana, Reha and Hannah striking the ball through fielders to find the boundary. A lovely front foot drive was made by Lana as she struck the ball with fabulous technique straight past the bowler and taking a 4. As the final pair went into bat it was tense asit came to the final over when a wide was bowled and Brooke and Flo ran 3 singles, helping us take the win.

Result: BCS 161-158 RGS

U9 Cricket v RGS: The Grange

BCS displayed another mature and focused performance, comfortably beating RGS The Grange. BCS were dominating in both bat and bowling. What was more impressive was the level of focus in the field – good field position, great catches, excellent run outs and constant backing up. Having bowled RGS out for 197, it could have been easy for BCS to lose focus and not implement the tactics asked of them in bat. Instead, BCS were ruthless between the wickets, scoring at least a single of nearly every ball. At times, we needed a bit more “thought” process when running as it nearly became habitual however BCS took every chance given to them. Once again, a fantastic performance.

Result: BCS Win

U9 Cricket v RGS: The Grange

A very hot sunny afternoon, BCS girls were very excited to play RGS The Grange. Probably our most competitive game yet. Losing the toss, BCS batted first. Unlike last week, the opposition’s bowling was fast, making it tricky for the girls to hit. This resulted in not being able to score as many boundary balls as we would have liked. However, the girls still batted in their pairs very effectively, getting lots of quick runs in and scoring extra runs from RGS’s miss fielding. Finishing our batting innings with 259 runs, the girls were confident moving into field. As RGS went into bat, the girls organised themselves confidently into their fielding positions. RGS had some big hitters, making the first couple of overs nerve racking. However, with some super teamwork and fielding. The girls stopped the opposition from taking the lead. A very close game, well done girls RGS 251- 259 BCS.

U9 C & D cricket v RGS: The Grange

This Tuesday the U9s played RGS The Grange. It was a perfect day for cricket, the sun was shining and the girls were ready. All three teams demonstrated brilliant bowling with many narrowly missing the stumps. Batting-wise all teams scored singles and fours helping to contribute to their team’s scores. When feilding, there was brilliant communication between players, calling ‘mine’ or ‘yours’, helping their team to take a wicket. All teams displayed awesome teamwork, cheering one another on when batting and congratulating teammates for their accurate bowling. Well played to all the girls, you should be very proud of yourselves.

U9 C, D & E Cricket v RGS The Grange

U11 A Cricket v Bromsgrove School

The U11 cricket team produced a solid performance against their visitors from Bromsgrove on a blazing hot Wednesday afternoon. Fielding first, the boys were put into the sunshine and this was shown with the usual buzz and energy missing. However, an disciplined bowling effort kept chipping away at wickets and reducing the oppositions total with Vidur being the pick of the bowlers taking three wickets. This was supported by some sharp wicketkeeping by Aditya who was whipping the bails off in a flash to get stumpings. Bromsgrove were restricted to a score of 242 off their 18 overs. BCS started poorly losing some cheap wickets but a solid partnership between Hugo and the returning Aaryan got BCS ahead of the run rate. Despite the loss of further wickets Will and Ismaeel knocked off a few boundaries to put BCS ahead of the score. The final pair had to not lose wickets and score a few runs and they did that with Aditya scoring 4 boundaries in three overs to finish on a total of 269 to win by 27 runs.

Result: BCS win by 27 runs

U11 B Cricket v Bromsgrove School

The U11B produced an exceptional performance with bat and ball to beat Bromsgrove comprehensively on a glorious afternoon for cricket at BCS. Leading the way with the bat were Noah and Dan who opened showing great intent both with their striking but also their running between the wickets. This was backed up by most pairs and the final pair of Aaron and Kabir added some lusty blows of their own to help the team reach a commanding 306. The Bromsgrove batters were then dismantled, with straight and accurate seam bowling from all the bowlers but it was Trethewey’s leg spin with flight and guile that really wreaked havoc taking 3-4 wickets in his 2 overs. A fantastic performance and one the boys should be mighty proud of- well done!

Result: BCS win by 108 runs

U11 C/D Cricket v Bromsgrove School

These were two convincing and comfortable wins against what can be described as a poor Bromsgrove showing. Despite the frustration playing against non-bowlers, BCS pupils remain composed and focused, striking the ball well and looking to run between the wickets effectively. BCS bowled aggressively, taking wicket after wicket with accurate bowling. What was most impressive was the level of concentration and commitment in the field.

Result: Both BCS teams win convincingly

U8 Cricket v Warwick

On Thursday we took all the year 3 boys to Warwick to take part in their first cricket match. It was a fantastic afternoon where all members of staff commented on how well the boys played and conducted themselves. There were boundaries galore from the bat and some wonderful accurate bowling as well as a few fine catches making it a great experience for all involved, well done all!

Mercia Prep Schools Championships

For this event, pupils have to gain the qualifying times and distances pre-set by National Schools Athletics to even be entered, so the 7 pupils that managed to attain these targets should be extremely proud of themselves in the first instance. First off, competing for BCS was the 1500m runners Sophie and Dan. Both of these pupils have previously faired well in National Cross Country competitions so the hope were high for both and neither did disappoint. In the blistering heat, Sophie won her 1500m race by at least 15m with a time of 5m:29s and Dan led from the start of his race and came home second in 5m:17s. Both pupils qualified for Nationals. With the events passing by, we moved onto the 100m heats, with Priscilla gaining a time of 15.6s and Serena clocking up the fastest time of the day with 14.2s and qualified for the 100m Final later that day. Whilst the sprints were going ahead, both Nanda, Priscilla and Roman were competing in field events. Unfortunately, Nanda did not do as well as she would have liked, but enjoyed the whole experience and cheering on her team. Priscilla jumped her best height of 1.20m in the high Jump and Roman, only being in Year 4, astonishingly threw the real Javelin (400g) 20.56m which won him first place and also a place at the National Finals in July. After watching Roman’s success, Serena had to alo run the 200m heat to qualify for the final later that day, which she did in a relaxed style gaining a time of 30.06s. With most pupils having finished their events, Anna was yet to start and the excitement to get on the track showed as she ran the first lap of her 800m final in 1m:15s she continued with this pace and absolutely smashed her 800m PB with a time of 2:34:4. This time meant Anna also qualifies for Nationals in July. She then went straight to the long jump where she came third with a jump of 3m78. Last but not least was Serena in her sprint finals. Whilst she came 3rd in her 100m, she ran the fastest time of the day, so are awaiting to see if she is selected for the 100m as the pupils ahead of her failed to clock the qualification time, which Serena did earlier in the day. In her 200m final, Serena came second and got the qualification time needed for Nationals. We all had a great day and pupils managed themselves really well given the searing heat. Well done to all of you and the best of luck for Nationals!
