U8 Cricket House Match

Result: St George’s win by 9 runs

It has been a pleasure to watch these pupils grow in terms of understanding and ability within Cricket. Regardless of the scoreline, all pupils demonstrated a good understanding of the game, a great respect for their opponents and teammates and brilliant team-working skills. There was the right balance of competitiveness, along with great support and encouragement. Both teams demonstrated the ability to bat and bowl, and with some encouragement, the ability to run between wickets. This was an evenly matched game which went down to the last over, with St George’s taking the win by just 9 runs. Well done to all involved!

U10 House Cricket Match

Result: St Philip’s win by 20 runs

Player of the match: Lucian Lau

The U10 St Philip’s and St George’s players competed in their House Matches in a game played in true BCS spirit on Monday afternoon. St George’s batted first and some early boundaries from Lucas and James meant that St George’s were off to a solid start. However, a few run outs and a couple of great deliveries from Jonathan and Lucian lost St George’s some runs. St George’s continued to post a good total with Judah and Raees hitting huge sixes out of the ground. Furthermore, Alessandro and Liam showcased some excellent running between the wickets. The highlight of the fielding innings was a direct hit from Jerry from the boundary, for a run out. St George’s posted a final total of 286. St Philip’s needed a good start, which Zayan and Jonathan successfully achieved. Whilst they hit some boundaries, Jayden and Jerry took forward this success. A couple of wickets from James and Alessandro slowed the run rate, but the final pair of Zimo and Lucian hit three fours in their final overs to edge St Philip’s over the line to be victorious by 20 runs.

U10 House Cricket Match

Result: St Margaret’s 301-283 St Monica’s

For their last House Match of the year, the girls showed how they have developed skills across all of the areas in cricket; in both the batting and in the field. Whilst our bowling still requires some work in Year 6, some great batting was seen with Paarus, Charissa, Camilla, Kyra, Aatika, Malika and Ila in finding the boundary. Great communication between the wickets from Delara and Destinee saw them run 3 singles. Some clever tactical play, running singles from no balls meant that St Margaret’s took a convincing lead and went on to win the match. I look forward to seeing how the cricket play develops next summer.

U11 House Cricket Match

Result: St Margaret’s 264-241 St Monica’s

What a fabulous end to the summer term with the first ever Hard-Ball girls House cricket match. Both teams seemed nervous to begin with which led them to make minor errors. With Mia showing bravery at the crease, she attacked every bowl which paid off as she was able to split the St Margaret’s fielders and find the boundary. Shreya (being House captain) stepped up to go into bat, the first pair had gotten off to a great start, scoring 13 runs. Eliza started well from her first bowl and scored 4 whilst Zoe stayed patient until their final over, where they took another two 4’s. St Monica’s finished with a decent score of 241. St Margaret’s went into bat with Sophie, managing to hit a 4 before having to head off for an athletics competition. Although they lost their captain, it put them in a good position as they scored 12 as a pair with Sabrina. Whilst Rosie made a slight mistake at the crease, she made up for this and found the boundary twice. With the scores very tight, the final pair went to bat. Madelen bowled, smashing the bails up into the air and taking Anna’s wicket twice in one over. The scores were 238-241 in the final 2 overs and Anna and Tabitha smashed St Margaret’s way to victory, finding the boundary 5 more times. Incredible batting! If this is the marker for where girls’ cricket is at BCS, then I cannot wait to see what the future holds. Fabulous girls, fabulous game!

U11 House Cricket Match

Result: St George’s win by 31 runs

Player of the match: Ismaeel Alam

A fantastic end to the sports career of the Year 6’s with a competitive House cricket match played in a superb spirit that all players should be extremely proud of. St George’s batted first and some explosive batting from Hugo meant that they were off to an excellent start. Despite the positive start, Will, Jai, and Nirvan chipped away at the total by getting some wickets. The third batting pair batted impressively with Ismaeel, regularly finding the boundaries with some well-timed shots, edging St George’s towards a competitive total. The final pair of Seb and Aditya continued this excellent bowling, but an exhibition of batting ensured that St George’s finished on a total of 295 from their 12 overs. In response, St Philip’s started off well with Vidur smashing the ball to the boundary, and playing some powerful shots. Tom and Jai continued this with some exceptional batting and outstanding shots played on the pitch. Under some accurate bowling, Jai and Kabir continued to add pressure onto St George’s, and made for an entertaining finish. However, some smart field settings ensured that St George’s were victorious by 31 runs in an excellent game of cricket, played at an extremely high standard.

U11 House Cricket Match

Result: St Philip’s win by 39 runs

Fielders of the Match: Yang He & Rayyan Jawaid

Batters of the Match: Ari Rupal & Thomas McGing

A fantastic afternoon of cricket! It was great to see the boys bowling with such pace and accuracy, and working so well as a team. A great batting display by St Philip’s saw them running hard between the wickets and spotting the gaps in order to score numerous 4’s. This made it very difficult for St George’s to chase. The game was played in great spirits with both teams wanting to do their best for their House. Well done to all involved!
