Our Christian Ethos

Grow in Grace

Christian Ethos

At The Blue Coat School, we guide our pupils in Christian values and virtues whilst equipping them with an excellent education. The Chaplain ensures that our Christian ethos and Chapel worship are central to the life of The Blue Coat School.

Whilst the School is of Church of England foundation, it welcomes families of all faiths and none. Everyone is expected to attend and participate in Chapel life. Parents of all faiths value the traditional Chapel Services which endeavour to inspire the children to adopt our school motto ‘Grow in Grace’ as a foundation stone for their lives.

The Chaplain

The Chaplaincy at The Blue Coat School is held by Father Andrew Hutchinson. His career and worship has taken him across the world, including the Church of St Gregory of Nyssa, San Francisco. This particular church, with a diverse community, was unwavering in welcoming without exception, an ethos Father Andrew instills in the BCS community. Everyone, of any faith or none, are welcomed and valued here.

Chapel Services

Chapel services are filled with pupil participation through class assemblies, Chapel Choir, school musicians and the duties of Chapel Monitors. We also welcome visiting speakers from local churches and a variety of national and international charities to speak during our weekly Wednesday or Friday morning services which are also attended by parents, family and friends.

Parents and pupils are also welcome to attend the weekly Thursday morning Eucharist Service. This short service brings together those who want to pray for someone, or something special that week.
