Classrooms
With the exception of Year 6, whose classrooms are in The Year 6 Centre, all of the Prep classrooms are in these buildings. Our classrooms are light and spacious, with plenty of space for the different styles of learning we facilitate at The Blue Coat School. This includes interactive whiteboards, space for written and group work, and space for using their individual iPad which all pupils receive at the beginning of Year 3.
The Lighthouse
The Lighthouse, plays a unique role in supporting children. The pastoral team which consists of dedicated members of pastoral staff, teaching staff and the Chaplain, offer support to all children through drop-in sessions.Â
Science Laboratories
The School has two new fully equipped laboratories to facilitate a limitless and practical exploration of science including life science, physical science and earth science.Â
Saville Music CentreÂ
Recitals, BCS Young Musician of the Year and other termly concerts offer performance opportunities for our children. Through Ensembles and Music Groups, the children experience playing with their peers and this in turn raises their cognitive skills and improves them as players. BCS Musicians are held in high regard by senior schools and a number are awarded Music Scholarships each year.Â
Creative Arts StudioÂ
The Creative Arts Studio is extensively equipped to introduce children to a range of practical ‘design and make’ tasks using a range of techniques and machinery in textiles, ceramics and woodwork, as well as traditional drawing and painting techniques. There are also food preparation facilities in the Studio to facilitate Food Technology lessons in the Prep curriculum.
Media CentreÂ
Pupils in Prep receive specialist Computing lessons each week in our state-of-the-art Media Centre. Pupils use their own iPad for Computing lessons, which is equipped with a digital stylus and keyboard. Our Media Centre is fully equipped with Chroma Key (green screen) technology and a recording booth.

The School Chapel was consecrated in 1932, shortly after the School moved from the city centre to its current Edgbaston premises. The Chapel was then rededicated by the Bishop of Birmingham in 2022 to celebrate the School’s 300th anniversary.
Whilst the School is of Church of England foundation, we welcome families of all faiths and none. Children will visit the Chapel each week which endeavours to inspire the children to embody the School’s motto ‘Grow in Grace’ which is illuminated in the stained glass window at the front of the Chapel.
Pupils visit Chapel once per week for a service, assembly or celebration. Pupils can also get involved in Chapel life through the Chapel Choir, as a Chapel Monitor and parents are warmly invited to attend weekly Chapel Services on a Friday morning.
The Chapel Choir sings at weekly Chapel services and joins the Choral Society and Birmingham Cathedral Choir for special events throughout the year.

Sport is for all at Blue Coat. There is an inclusive programme of intra-school fixtures as well as home and away sports matches with other schools in the region. The quality of the sports facilities means they are also utilised by partners such as Warwickshire County Cricket Club. They use our facilities for training their performance age groups.
