A Life Changing Opportunity

The Blue Coat School, Birmingham, was founded as a Charity School in 1722.

To this day we continue to financially support children to attend The Blue Coat School with bursaries of up to 100% of school fees. These are awarded each year to children entering Year 3 in September.

Why move to The Blue Coat School?

Joining at Year 3, your child will enjoy a varied curriculum including subjects such as Modern Languages, Science, Humanities, Creative Arts, Music and lots of sport! Our facilities are second to none and include an indoor swimming pool, AstroTurf pitches, two new science laboratories, a creative arts studio and a Multi-Media Centre with a giant green screen.

At The Blue Coat School, we will provide holistic support, both academic and pastoral, for your child in the lead up to the 11+ examinations. We have a strong track record of academic achievement with Year 6 pupils gaining places at grammar and independent schools. Many of our pupils gain scholarships for academic, music and sporting achievement at senior schools.

Apply for a Bursary

The deadline for applying for a bursary for children entering Year 3 in September 2024 has now closed.

The Blue Coat School has a Bursary Fund which supports up to 30 children at any one time. There are children benefiting from 100% fees discount, along with a number of smaller awards. The Awards are means tested and will take into account things such as your total household income, equity, number of siblings etc.

A 100% bursary will cover all school fees, a uniform allowance, plus two extra curricular activities e.g. a club or an instrumental lesson in school.

Entry to Year 3 is determined by an entrance test which assesses English and maths. You can also make an enquiry for future years by completing the form below. Please note, we cannot accept applications for children who are already Year 3 or above.

Following the entrance test, shortlisted applicants are invited for an informal meeting with a senior member of staff. In addition, you will have a meeting with a school representative, currently a member of Bursary Administration Limited.

    Enquire About a Bursary

Bursaries are only for children entering Year 3 in the following September

Please note, these bursaries are only for children entering Year 3 (age 7) in September 2025. Applications for September 2024 have now closed.

By indicating your income bracket we will be able to advise on the level of support we may give you.

A 100% bursary will cover all school fees, a uniform allowance, plus two extra curricular activities e.g. a club or an instrumental lesson in school. If you receive less than a 100% bursary, it will only be School fees which are subsidised.

Yes, the School will ask for updated financial documents each year to evaluate the family’s financial status and ensure it is still appropriate to allocate bursary funding to you for the following School year. You must inform us immediately if your financial circumstances change during the year. For example, if you get a new job with a higher salary.

Not at all. It is only the Senior Leadership Team, Academic Registrar and the Finance Team who are aware which children are receiving financial support. This ensures every child is treated the same by their teachers and their peers.
