This week, the entirety of BCS have been learning about Diwali and its significance to various religions. With the festival of lights only a few days away, our pupils have been taking it in turns to try Bollywood dancing. Our Nursery children were treated to a dance workshop led by Mrs Fletcher which combined the festival of lights and Bonfire Night into one spectacular routine. With colourful ribbons, upbeat music and a lot of passion from our youngest pupils, the workshop was a smash!
For Reception, Year 2, Year 3, and Year 5, their Diwali celebrations were led by Reena, from Bollywood Dreams Dance, who explained the origins of Bollywood and the fundamental hand gestures that feature in the majority of Bollywood dancing. Dancing to ‘Mahi Ve’, our pupils eagerly listened to Reena’s instructions and each performed brilliantly.
We have been extremely impressed by the enthusiasm and the commitment our pupils have showed to Reena and the dance workshops. Some of our pupils took the time to speak to us about their experiences with Bollywood dancing:
Ava:
“It was so much fun and a great way to start the day.”
Kavidh:
“I enjoyed watching the first video, I’m a Hindu and it is great to show everyone Bollywood dancing.”
Tom:
“The music was brilliant and it made me feel excited.”
Susannah:
“It was fun to learn about all the different dances and the moves were explained clearly.”
Esme:
“It was so much fun learning the dance and watching the video – it made me feel happy and I wanted to watch more Bollywood dancing.”
Arya-Veer:
“I really enjoyed learning the dance moves, I’ve never done something like that before.”
Caterina:
“I thought it was a really good opportunity for us to learn about and take part in different cultures.”
If our pupils’ feedback has intrigued you, you’ll be happy to know that Bollywood Dreams Dance offers dance lessons for all ages. If you have been dancing since childhood or if you are a complete beginner looking to start a new hobby, Reena has classes that suit your experience and confidence.
From all of us here at Blue Coat, we wish you a happy Diwali!
