At The Blue Coat School, we welcome children aged 2 to 3 years to our Buttons Nursery. Buttons Nursery has its own purpose-built building with a newly refurbished early years playground. Children either join the Caterpillars or the Ladybirds and will have a Key Worker that looks after them.
Entry is from the term following your child’s birthday. We have a September and January intake. Depending on which month your child was born this either means they will spend one year (3 terms) with us or 5 terms if places are available.
The minimum number of sessions is 3 consecutive mornings or days. Parents are requested to set their sessions for the term but will have the opportunity to change them for the following term. The core day is 8.30am to 3.15pm. Children doing a morning session will leave at 1.10pm following lunch. Before and After School Care is offered at an additional charge. Please refer to our schedule of Fees and Charges for further information.
Buttons Nursery like to join in with whole school events and use the school facilities where ever possible! We therefore have opportunity to meet Chaplain and visit the Chapel, use the Pre-Prep gymnasium, watch our Pre-Prep friends in their plays and performances and help to fundraise for whole school charity appeals. We have our own Sports Day and End of Year Service and love exploring the school grounds for a nature walk or even an Easter egg hunt in the Forest School.
The children have a morning snack and a hot lunch is brought down to the nursery building for us daily from the School kitchens. We have a simplified version of the school lunches. A wide range of diets are catered for, please talk to us about your child’s requirements. The children have a nap after lunch and are provided with their own bedding and portable bed. During their time in Buttons Nursery we will work with parents so that the children are toilet-trained before they move up to Pre-Prep.
A place in the Buttons Nursery is conditional on having a provisional place for Transition (the beginning of Pre-Prep) at the age of 3 years. You are therefore requested to register for entry to the School at age 3 years at the earliest opportunity. Places are limited and fill quickly. Priority is given to siblings of current pupils if they have registered within the first 3 months of birth.
