Limitless Learning for Tomorrow’s Achievers

In Year 2, the pupils begin preparing for the transition to Prep. Lessons become more structured and pupils have the opportunity to develop their confidence and leadership skills by leading class assemblies and Chapel Services for example. Year 2 children can also sing in the Pre-Prep Choir who perform in Chapel and at the Pre-Prep concert.

Year 2 is an exciting fusion between the explorative and playful learning developed throughout Pre-Prep, and building academic momentum as they progress towards Prep.

Specialist Subjects

Children in Year 2 have a broad and fascinating curriculum of specialist subjects. In Science, they experience practical experiments and begin to learn the theory behind scientific investigations. In Computing, they develop key skills such as keyboard skills whilst sharing learning from Humanities to explore the world on Google Earth for example. Religious Education, PSHE, Creative Arts, Music, PE, Games and Swimming also feature on the Year 2 weekly timetable.

An Extraordinary Lesson

Once per term, Year 2 will have an enrichment day. The theme will link to their termly curriculum.

An enrichment day is an immersive learning experience where children will dress up, undertake classroom activities based on the theme and the highlight of every enrichment day is a special practical activity which brings the subject to life.

This could be learning another language, creating artwork or jewellery from another country, or coming face-to-face with animals you wouldn’t normally find in School!

The BCS Blue

Year 2 is the first year in which pupils are given an award, called The BCS Blue. The two-yearly assessment cycle spans Year 1 and Year 2. The BCS Blue is the School’s bespoke e-learning platform.

It is a secure, web-based interface in which staff, parents and pupils can view achievements, progress, and the next steps. It has already been shortlisted for two notable national awards which recognise The BCS Blue’s holistic approach and use of technology.

At the end of Year 2, pupils and parents are invited to a special Prizegiving Ceremony for The BCS Blue to celebrate the children’s hard work and efforts.
